For the past five years, Malden Drama students have been involved in a playwriting residency with the Playwright's Theater at Boston University. Every year, ten students work with a professional playwright to develop an original play. The program is entitled New Noises: Massachusetts Young Playwright's Project. In late January and again in a March, a professional playwright leads workshops and critique sessions to develop student writing and narrative structure.
Congratulations go to Malden Drama students Mary Stathos, Sarah Rose, and Jaclyn Scales for having their original ten-minute plays selected to be work shopped and performed next week at the Boston Playwright's Theater. Senior Dan Rendon's original ten-minute play will be given a cold-read. The showcase is Thursday, April 5th, 2012. For additional information please contact Mr. Sean Walsh, MHS Play Production Advisor at swalsh@malden.mec.edu.
The public is cordially invited to view some of the student’s work at our Ten by Ten festival on May 17-19th in the Black Box, in the Jenkins Auditorium at 7 PM. This is Malden Play Production's Theater in the Round. General admission, $5.00 at the door, doors open at 6:15 PM
“The pieces are funny, thoughtful, and abstract. Though, not selected, Simon Rogers' piece about the apocalypse is brilliant,” commented Mr. Sean Walsh
