Five Mystic Valley Softball Players Named to CAC All Star Team
Five members of Mystic Valley’s softball team were recently named to the Commonwealth Athletic Conference All Star team. Sara Marraccino, Rachel Tortora, Michelle Doherty, Jordan Sullivan and Leah Thomas were all named to the team.
Their coach, Scot Barry, was very happy for the girls and offered praise for each of his players:
“Sara Marraccino brings a quiet confidence to the field that led our team to many important wins this season. She led the team in batting average, homeruns, triples and runs scored as well as playing a great center field. We will truly miss her positive presence on the team.”
“Rachel displays incredible tenacity and knowledge of the game. She was the best defense player on the team at third base as well as leading the team in doubles. The coaching staff continues to be excited for Rachel’s future in softball as numerous college suitors evaluate her game.”
“Michelle is an extremely dedicated player that gives everything she has whenever she is on the field. She is a versatile offensive player that can hit the gaps as well as a skilled bunter as well as displaying great range at shortstop.”
“Jordan really matured this year offensively and was one of our best clutch hitters at the end of the season. In our final three come from behind wins, she was 8 – 11 with a homerun run and three triples. She has always been a standout at first base and can pick anything that comes her way.”
“Leah is quietly becoming a team leader through her poise and determination on the mound. She recorded 16 wins on the season including 6 games where she gave up 2 hits or less. She also batted .387 on the season and as an eighth grader, has established herself as a player to be reckoned with not only in the CAC but at the state level.”
The team won their division and advanced to the semi-final round of the MIAA Tournament this year. The Eagles are poised for another good year next year as 4 of the 5 all stars will be back next year.
