The Angel Baseball Giants won their opening game of the playoffs last night, 5-4 against Maynard in front of a standing room only crowd at the lovely South Broadway Field.
The Giants jumped out to a 5-0 lead behind a strong 6 1/3 inning pitching performance from Sharom Urdeta. Maynard threatened several times throughout the game, but couldn't break through until the top of the seventh inning, when they cut the lead to one run.
Teddy Feeble came in the game with one out and, after settling in, struck out the last two batters to end the game.
The highlight of the game was an ESPN web gem catch made by Tyler Acolla in the 4th inning (with runners on 1st and 2nd base). Acolla made a sliding catch of a foul ball down the third base line from his short stop position.
The Giants travel to Beverly tonight where a win puts them into the semi-finals. The game is at 7:30 Wednesday at Cooney Field in Beverly.
The Giants want to thank all their fans for showing up and a special thanks to Mayor Christenson and Bobby Knox for their ongoing support!
