The Malden/East Boston Youth Hockey (MEB) Mite AA (age 8 & under) team finished an undefeated season Saturday afternoon in grand style, with a Championship win in the Valley League Mite AA division. The game was an incredibly popular activity for many in the city on Saturday at the Valley Forum II on Holden Street. The parking lot was filled to overcapacity, with the game seeing attendance from parents, friends, supporters, local media, and politicians, including Malden Mayor Gary Christenson, who also stayed for the post game award ceremony.
The team played strong all season, easily finishing first in their division with a record of 20-0-2, but Saturday faced an opponent that had challenged them during regular season play. The game against Wakefield ended in a near-shutout with a score of 9-1, though both teams played hard and had many scoring chances.
Led by Head Coach Glen Curtis, the MEB Mites have had a great season, with 210 golas for and just 55 goals against, and we wish them all Congratulations as the youth hockey season comes to an end for this year. Registration sessions for next year have been held on several dates over the last month, and additional information is available on our website, under Player Development (www.mebhockey.com/Player_Development.html).
Malden/East Boston Youth Hockey is finishing the fourth year of a merger between the two town programs, and teams have celebrated more than a half dozen division championships since the first year of the partnership. With home ice at the Louis E. Porrazzo Memorial Rink in East Boston, MEB is celebrating again this week. Join us in Congratulating the Mites!
