Your View: Does It Bother You When Strangers Go Through Your Trash?

When you hear the "clink clink clink" of someone going through your bottles and cans, are you worried or relieved?

Patch reader let us in on her concerns, and we at Patch think she's not alone.  As she says,

On trash day in my neighborhood a man always makes his way from house to house picking through the recycling bins. I have compassion for this person and understand that he is trying to scrape together some money, and I also appreciate that if I'm not redeeming my bottles at least someone else can do it.

However, I'm alone at my house on trash days and, especially now that it's dark in the morning, I feel uneasy and a little unsafe when I run into him in front of my house. I also feel extremely uncomfortable with someone going through my trash. I wish this kind of activity were illegal, but I also want to be kind.
