YOUR TURN: "Buy Nothing Day" is Nov. 23
Could you go cold turkey from commerce for 24 hours?
Black Friday, Cyber Monday, Holiday Weekend Sales, Pre-Christmas Sales - it’s enough to make you go crazy as a consumer.
But one organization says they have a solution to help you retain your sanity—“Buy Nothing Day," encouraging consumers to instead buck the trends and stay home this Black Friday.
AdBusters, a left-wing, anti-consumerist magazine best known for sparking the Occupy Wall Street protests last year, are no strangers to these kinds of campaigns. Their website also features guides to organized protests like a Credit Card Cut Up, Zombie Walk and Whirl-Mart.
The group claims participants would join “millions of us in over 60 countries on November 23/24.”
Readers, what do you think? Are you staying home this Black Friday, or braving the early morning lines for holiday deals? What do you make of "Buy Nothing Day"?

I will go out of my way to buy something. I wasn't planning on doing so, but after I read this foolishness, I am determined to shop on Black Friday.

Of course you are. No better way to kick off the season of peace, love and joy than with bitterness, spite, and maybe a brawl over a crappy Walmart tv.

The BIGBT may go shopping on Friday. But the BIGBT may sleep late or the BIGBT may watch football all day long on his standard def tv. The BIGBT does not care for all the hoopla around Friday. The BIGBT thinks it would be good if say the stores opened up at 2 in the afternoon. That way people could have brunch or attend a interfaith service. But the BIGBT is just glad he is not living in a town where air raid sirens are blaring.

I dunno, I go lots of days without buying something.
The "Zombie Walk" and stupid "Whirl-Mart" thing is just an attention-getting device for people who want to try to be non-conformist, maaaaaaaan

I don't shop on Black Friday. It's not worth it. I went once and 2 women where beating on each other over a parking place. One had her faced messed up really bad for what. People get trampled and even killed. they could open the doors on Thanks Giving Day. We are all far from being Puritans those days are over.

With all the unemployed people I bet there are plenty of people who have a buy nothing day. Nice voting America. Hey at least you can get medical marijuana with your free health care the working people have paid for and buy munchies with your EBT card we paid for too.
