What Business Would You Open in Malden?

If you could open one kind of business in the city, what would you do?

Assume money was no object and the only limit your imagination: what kind of business would you love to run in Malden?

It could be a store you feel would perform well in the city, or a business that would provide a much-needed service.

Would you love to have your own bar? A coffee shop? Maybe there's something off-the-wall you've seen work really well in another community.

Whatever it is, share your ideas with your neighbors in our comment section below.

A movie theater, but alas, money is a very real object and local theaters don't make enough of it to pay the rent.

A Cuban restaurant...I did not know that. What type of restaurant. A real restaurant with full bar or just another takeout place with Formica tables and benches. Hope it's a real restaurant where you go to dinner in the evening and not another glorified take out pizza like place

cool, looks like a real restaurant and not just a take out / Formica booth kinda place that permeates the square. Looking forward to visiting it. Hopefully it will have cuban cocktails. Is this space that used to be the nice italian restaurant

A "$5 store" to sell slightly better quality imported merchandise than the current multitude of dollar stores... or a Food Truck without the wheels drive-thru store.

Mike G
Your tactics are straight from the Alinsky playbook. You attempt to discredit anyone with an opposing view by isolating them with false claims of complaining and to a harsher degree by labeling them racist!
I've lived in Malden for 36 years and have never seen this much violence in such a short period of time, and frankly typing Mike, people are concerned not complaining.
In the grand scheme of things, yes crime is down overall, but the residents of Malden have a stake in the game.
Instead of acting like the digital gulag with an intellectual egghead of an accomplice, enough of being the resident WONK !!

But in all seriousness, what about a sporting goods store in Malden? I used to get my gear from those guys, and they were always the best at sharpening my skates.

Everett has MetroRock and SkyZone in large converted industrial buildings. I would like to see something like this in Malden. Maybe a large industrial building converted into the craziest paintballing on the North Shore.

Microbrewery and steakhouse would also be great -- agreed.

I may put a business plan of my own into action once City Hall comes down. No way I'm starting anything in the Square without more traffic throughput.

I'd love a place to get a good sandwich and decent cup of coffee. NOT a new sub or pizza shop or Dunks--but a GOOD deli sandwich and some high quality coffee--some place that's also open on weekends (unlike Cornucopia!)

A place sort of like the Busy Bee in Melrose, with a quality menu, changing specials, good bakery selection, and pleasant, clean, sunny atmosphere, etc.

Been there JDD its great there all the time when Im pasing through. Bruegers Bagels coffee is great and so are the bagels. In the 80's we had a Jewish Deli called Lynchy's on Main Street in the square and the coffee was out of this world and the biggest fattest Corn Beef Sandwich ever.

I'd love to see any/all of the following: an adult education center like the Cambridge/Boston Centers for Adult Education, more women's clothing stores, Trader Joe's, Market Basket, a Healthworks or Planet Fitness (one closer to the square), Panera, Morgie's, IHOP, and perhaps a cafeteria/buffet style restaurant. I'd also love to see the post office move from Mountain Ave to a space closer to the square; Malden's the only city in which I've lived where the post office was not in the city center.

Nadine in the 60's and 70's there were so many exclusive dress shops in the square. Lord and Taylor,Nepris,Gordons, and many more. We had the Kernwood Resturaunt Later to be the 99 Resturaunt all gonzo when they put city hall smack in the middle of the square. Malden Knitting Mills great sweaters there. Panera's a big plus I got to the one in Everett. Its all gone because they wanted to make Malden a bedroom Community.Bedroom Comunities like Lynnfeild,Boring,Winchester,Boring,West Peopbody Boring all Boring nothin in them but Condo's

Nadine, I'm with you on Trader Joe's, and Market Basket....wouldn't it be a laugher if Market Basket moved into the old Mal's Supermarket building, right across from the Stop & Shop. When Market Basket opened their flagship store three years ago in Chelsea, they immediatley started clean Stop & Shop's clock :)

We had a similar discussion months back about when the Converse Restaurant (the old Chapelle's) closed in the Sq, the topic was what we would like to see in it's place. I think Chris Caesar actually agreed with me about a Starbucks. But we were all in agreement that nothing with a brand name will work unless a huge investment in the downtown takes place!

@Paul Surette excuse me I dont suffer any beatings here. You take your posts too seriously. Computeritis. Try soaking your head in Olive oil before inserting head in butt. It wont pop so loud when you take it out. Im told I have a great personality,a good sence of humor, and fun to be with. Thats outside the Computer Box. So Mr Surette you or anyone else does not bother me because your all lil names on a page and are not real to me. Im not here to impress only when Im outside I dress to Impress. If you like I can talk to you live on Skype ..Ok enough of the bashing not my style.
