Two Arrested After Attempted Armed Robbery on Beach Street

The pair allegedly pulled up alongside the victim from their vehicle, brandishing a knife and demanding money. Instead, the victim fled and called police.

Malden police arrested two suspects after a quick response to an attempted armed robbery on Beach Street around 10:45 p.m. Monday night.

Doreese Licardi, 18, of Boston Avenue in Medford and Corey A. Calla Sr., 18, of Montrose Street in Malden were arrested for alleged armed assault with intent to rob, Lt. Det. Marc Gatcomb confirmed Tuesday.

Licari also faces additional charges of alleged class "E" drug possession and conspiracy.

"These individuals were arrested last evening after the victim reported being approached while walking on Beach St.," Gatcomb wrote in an email. "A knife was brandished and money demanded.

"Patrol officers conducted a preliminary investigation and quickly conducted a search of the area. A vehicle was located by Officer Langston that matched the description used in the crime and further investigation led to the arrests."

The two were arraigned in Malden District Court Tuesday, but information about their case was not immediately available.

You don't even know Corey. People make mistakes. This is a good kid with a good family. He will get past this and make better choices. Easy for you to sit on your behinds and judge people. Name-calling, really? It was wrong and it's unfortunate but it's not up you to judge.

It is not about “judging”, it is about being a frustrated resident of the City of Malden.
Two young Americans who could be going to school or working at the local grocery plotting how to rob people is not a “mistake”.
It is a poorly calculated act on how to victimize the innocent to support I “assume” a drug habit.
Why doesn’t his family set up and get the kid some help, he could have picked the “wrong” victim who could have shot and killed him, than who would’ve been in the wrong.
Corey appears to be a strong and healthy young man, why choose a path that is going to land him in jail.

AppleBottom02148

Corey may have a big heart, but he did not show it when he robbed someone. Corey, may have troubles no doubt and maybe this will be an early wake up call for him. Someonethatcares you must understand kids don't just do this kind of crime to do it, so there is reason behind it. Troubled home, maybe wrong choice of friends, drugs or drinking? Kids don't just wake up one day and say I think I will rob someone today because I have a big heart. I sure hope this will be a huge lesson to both before they continue down a destructive path. Get them some help, get them also some community service. Someonethatcates as a family member or friend show them tough love and don't condone what Corey, did. To many slaps on the wrist and this is why 10 years later most are still in the same rut doing the same stuff. Corey, has such a big heat step up and apologize to the person he robbed and make things right and from this day forward DO RIGHT.

Unfortunately people don't always make decisions with their hearts. I don't know him personally but know his family and have heard so many great stories about how caring he is. IF he did this, there must be a reason (not an excuse) and his family will be there for him to get to the bottom of it and help him make it right.

You're all so quick to judge. Youve got it sll figured out. Judge jury and trial right here online. Is that how the justice system works. You call all kinds of names and label. Does that make it better? Do you think that helps his family? Do you think that helps him? Sitting in your armchairs with nothing better to do but troll these sites for things and people to have your say about. I'm not asking for sympathy for someone who allegedly did something wrong. I just think people say a lot of useless trash.

Interesting that you are defending someone that you don't know personally.
I would hardlycall residents who want to be kept "informed" about the crimes in their city trollers.
In every family their is a "black shee", mine included so just saying he's from a good family does not excuse his behavior.
As for the "justice" system, let's not even go there!

People make choices in life. Parents try to instill basic values in their children, but ultimately, the choices they make are their responsibility once they turn 18. It doesn't necessarily matter the financial situation of the family either, we are on the low income scale, and sometimes struggle to make ends meet, but we always have stressed the value of being grateful for what we have, and not feeling society owes us more. My son went to the same schools as Corey, had some of the same friends when progressing through Salemwood, and as time went on grew apart from some of them because he didn't like some of the values they adopted, was shunned by some of them, and made new ones. We took interest in the friends he chose, but never interfered with who he chose to hang out with...he made those decisions on his own. He has gone on to college receiving a merit scholarship and is getting good grades, while other friends have gotten jobs, joined the military, struggle with trying to find work, or have gone to other colleges. We are lucky that he made the choices he has. and hope that he will continue on that path, but their are no guarantees. I hope that, if found guilty in this matter, a judge insures that these young adults get the help they need to try to turn their lives around, but they also have to serve a just punishment for threatening another human's life.
