"Potentially Historic" Storm Could Drop as Much as Two Feet on Malden

The National Weather Service has issued a blizzard watch, anticipating heavy snowfall on Friday into Saturday.

As of 3:19 p.m. on Wednesday, the National Weather Service has issued a Blizzard Watch for Middlesex County and much of Massachusetts from Friday morning through Saturday afternoon.

According to NWS, much the state will be impacted by heavy snow with accumulation of 12 to 24 inches with the potential for blizzard conditions.

The NWS previously forecast 14 to 18 inches. That total has been increased to 18 to 24 inches in the latest forecast. (See photo.)

Light snow is expected to begin by Friday morning and increase in intensity throughout the day with the heaviest snowfall occurring Friday night into Saturday morning. Snowfall rates of 2 to 3 inches per hour are possible during that time.

Residents should be aware that travel will be dangerous and may become nearly impossible due to blowing and drifting snow, 25 to 25 mph winds with gusts up to 55 mph and poor visibility. NWS urges residents to be prepared to alter travel plans.

A pirate walks into the bar with a steering wheel in his pants. He asks for some rum. The bartender says, "Sir, do you realize you have a steering wheel in your pants?"

The pirate says, "Arrrrr! It's drivin' me nuts!"

The streets in this city are in terrible condition, I can only imagine after a major snow storm what they'll be like.

Last friday I was in Ocean State Job lots and they sell Snowshoes. I kinda laughed and with the mild weather I figured we will never need those. Wish I got them now. Lots of them in the Saugus store beside Targets in Saugus. With 2 ski poles, snowshoes, youll be good to go.

Ocean State is also selling water ski grips and ropes, just in case a Malden resident is on their way to the beach and forgot their gear.

You're correct jirky, as this is a common occurrence in Buffalo, Wyoming, Minnesota, the Dakotas, etc. And to Mike G....I saw that!

I hope that the DPW will be able to keep up with this amount of snow. In past years they were pretty quick in getting the roads treated and snow removed but it seems that this year things have slowed down a bit. My street has yet to see any salt and / or sand with each of the small storms we have had this year. Who should we call Saturday if the roads are not passable?

Batman or Ted Coates. Pick your poison. Maybe Ted Coates will just use his Batman voice.

I really feel like this storm has been sensationalized. We've all lived through some terrible snow storms, this will be no different. Just go slow driving, stay warm, and just help each other.

I sympathize with you there Bruce, but we're just reporting what the National Weather Service is saying. I've actually seen some predictions by some local networks that far exceed these estimates. At the end of the day, as long as people are prepared for power outages and bad roads, we should be okay.

Got my snowshobels at Ace my favorite place. All your food stores are packed and long lines. I think we are in for the long haul on this storm. Emergency Radio keeps goin off Coastal Flood Warnings. Shore roads may become unpassable. NOOA is calling for potential destruction of homes as well.
