Stop and Shop Robbed at Gunpoint

Two males made off with cash during a Monday morning heist.

Police are seeking two men in connection with an armed robbery at the Stop and Shop on Charles St. this holiday weekend.

Two males entered the store around 6:30 a.m. Monday morning, with one man creating a diversion while a second man approached the customer service desk, brandishing a gun.

The men fled toward the Malden Center T in a grey vehicle.

"This was a well thought out plan," Lt. Det. Marc Gatcomb said. "We feel it wasn't an off-the-cuff type of incident...but at the same time, we've recovered some recent evidence that was left behind and continue to press on investigating."

That evidence includes a great deal of surveillance footage from both the supermarket and other surrounding businesses, he said.

Gatcomb "couldn't confirm nor deny" an amount of money rumored to be stolen from the store.

The gunman was described as a male in his early 20s, either light-skinned black or latino, black hat, yellow shirt and a thin moustache.

Anyone with more information should call the Malden Police Detective's Unit at 781-397-7181.

Chris I got a blank E-mail from you. My virus software blocked images from popping up. Was it from you? I got it.

This makes me mad. I wonder if they worked in the store at one time.

What the heck is going on here? Before, it used to be incidents of shoplifting by concealing merchandise at that Stop & Shop location. Now, the criminals are more brazen and doing armed robbery! Wasn't there a cop posted at that location at the time, or do these on-duty officers only work banking hours nowadays?

A) I believe that's a paid detail.
B) This happened before the store opened for the day.
C) The detail extends from open until at least 9 at night.

Thanks for the information Bobby James. My guess is this must be an inside job, the robbers must have scoped out the place beforehand. Hopefully, they get caught and punished severely, and the full details of this incident come out.

How scary has it become that they are robbing Stop and Shop. Danny what a nasty comment about the people who protect us. I am pretty sure Stop and Shop hires an officer at night I don't think the city has an officer posted there.

Shannon, Stop & Shop pays for a police detail at that store. Usually on the busy says they are present, but not at 6:30 in the morning. Obviously, the robbers knew this.

Can we get stop and rob to stop to stop stealing from my wallet. I don't even shop there,I go to Chelsea Market Basket and put up with the insane crowds there rather that go to Malden stop and rob, unless of course I am on the hunt for the ever elusive blue trash bag, the only reason I shop there, and yes I live in Malden , all my life

Can everyone write Trader Joe's about putting a store in Malden? We need another choice for healthier food. Hopefully, they don't read the Malden crime section.
