Stadium Takes Next Step After MRA Designation

Representatives presented the project to the Malden Redevelopment Authority's Board of Directors Wednesday night, who granted 'preliminary developer' status.

Malden's "Field of Dreams" took another step ahead Wednesday night, when the Malden Redevelopment Authority designated them a "preliminary developer" of the 6.5-acre downtown National Grid site.

The designation will allow developer Alex Bok and his group to begin further discussions with owners of the three abutting properties, which the group will need to acquire in order to proceed with the proposal.

Bok also fielded some questions from members of the commission, including whether the group will work to allow high school football teams to play at the site.

Bok told those in attendance that, while such an arrangement would be complicated given the dimensions of the field, his team was dedicated to trying to secure such an arrangement for the city.

"The challenge is to meet regulations," he said.

The stadium will also boast other evergreen features, including a restaurant, some retail space and a large green space to adorn the stadium's entrance.

Hey folks, I know what you can call them....how about the "I'm Gary Christenson, and I'm ramming this ballpark down your throat anyway, even though I have no clue whether it's going to work! " I'm sure Mr. Christenson consulted with the Hamburglar , the Grimace, and Mayor McCheese about consessions too :)

Hey Paul, while I'll agree with D below that everyone has a right to express their opinion, you should try to get the facts straight first. This ballpark was in play long before Christenson was in office. If you want to thank anyone thank the former Mayor, you know the guy who shoved PAYT onto all us taxpayers.

Shamrock, why don't you get off your high horse?

"What have you done for your fellow Maldonian"? Really???

People have the right to express their opinions however different they are. I, for one, do not agree with building this ballpark, because I believe this administration should focus on other priorities to revitalize Malden Center.

Does the administration own this property? Have any othert developers come forward? What should they build on this land?

There is nothing being or been proposed that will revitalize Malden like having a minor league Triple A Red Sox team play in our own stadium. Not even close. Maybe it is time to start looking at the current politicians and eliminating them.
