Solar Panel Investment Opportunities in Malden

There are a number of financing options available to enable residents to "go solar" with little or no money down, making solar energy realizable for many people.

This past December the City of Malden, in coordination with the Malden Energy Efficiency Commission, conducted a survey in conjunction with the Malden Patch to gauge local interest in generating clean, renewable electrical energy through the use of solarphotovoltaic (PV) panels.

The results were impressive with 320 residents participating and 60 leaving comments! More than 95% of the respondents, both residents and businesses, said they would be interested in learning more about a program to provide and install affordable solar PV panels to reduce electricity bills.

The Solar Malden program is being initiated by Malden’s Energy Efficiency Commission: Craig Spadafora, Andrew Pepoli, Michele Brown-Droese, Steve Keleti and Steve Melanson with assistance from Lori Timmermann of Melrose, a volunteer Solar Coach who is working with the Malden Energy Efficiency Commission. Solarize Melrose, one of 17 pilot communities in the Solarize Mass program, had 79 homes install solar panels which in total can produce up to 425 kilowatts of electricity saving approximately $48,000 overall per year and avoiding Greenhouse Gas emissions of over 300 metric tons of carbon dioxide.

"We were excited at reaching so many homes with solar PV during Solarize Mass 2012 and look forward to helping Malden outdo that number," said Timmermann. "It’s gratifying to see the enthusiasm of potential solar PV users when they learn how much sense this renewable energy option makes.”

“Full steam ahead,” said Mayor Gary Christenson about initiating an affordable, comprehensive program for Malden residents and businesses to install solar panels.

On March 28th from 6 to 8PM in the City Hall Council Chambers, a Solar 101 Workshop will provide an introduction to solar PV and explain the pathway for active resident participation. The Workshop will describe the Solarize Mass program and Malden’s Application to be a Fall Round 2013 Solarize Community. Information on Solarize Mass results and the process can be found at www.solarizemass.com.
