This Veterans Day there are about 1.5 million active-duty service members currently serving in the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, and Coast Guard combined, and many more Americans served but have since retired from military service.
President Obama addressed these troops and all of us when he issued a proclamation for the Veterans Day holiday. As he says, "The selflessness of our service members is unmatched, and they remind us that there are few things more fundamentally American than doing our utmost to make a difference in the lives of others."
With this in mind, we at Patch wanted to give you an opportunity to share the contributions of the veterans in your life. I am blessed that my husband is my hero. 27 years serving our country in the USMC and the Army National Guard. He is finally retired from the military and is now helping unemployed Veterans find employment. God bless all our men & women who are serving and have served as well as the families who support them.

This is to thank all those who serve and protect us and today especially our veterans. We send them out to the ends of the earth, to inhospitable, hostile places. Let us welcome them home and care for them as they have cared for us. Let us not reject them and ignore them. Let us help them heal and finally let us ensure that on their return we ensure that they find productive, satisfying roles to play in society. This must be one of our most important priorities.

As a Veteran I feel that today we observe the sacrifice of those that never came home and the active Military today that are in harms way, I hope that some day we'll all learn

Some day we will learn that it will no longer be necissary to send our young people to fight in any wars, I'm a combat Vet and would never wish it on anyone, is that clear enough, this is a site to remember our fallen and still serving Vets not silly debate.

I just watched the PBS special about where our U.S. soldiers come from. It followed a U.S. platoon of friends from Northern Michigan who joined the National Guard together because they were at a standstill in their lives, and were deployed to Afghanistan.
I strongly recommend this film; it opened my eyes to the danger, disillusionment, misery and deceit our young men and women face when they believe the claims of U.S. government recruiters about what service in the army will do for them. In my opinion, every recruiter should be required to stress the "risks" as well as the "rewards" of serving in the military. They should also stress that if killing is against a person's principles, there is the option of choosing to be a conscientious objector.
