You blame the police? they can't be everywhere all the time

hECK nO iM NOT BLAMING THE POLICE THEY WERE BUSY ALL WEEKEND.Not their fault all this crap happends. Marc Levine where does it say Im blaming the police? I said Oh Boy here we go again. Meaning more shootings. I listen to the scanner 24/7 and I heard all this. Again...Good Going MPD Geesh!

They should have a detail in the area. There was a shooting in the area during the summer. These thugs would be less likely to start trouble if the know there iare police roaming around

Unfortunately its only a matter of time...these scumbag animals are shooting at each other and missing!!! Those bullets have to go somewhere, I hope an innocent person minding their own business doesn't get hit.

There was another incident with a gun being pulled on someone. Sunday Afternoone on Sammett Street. The police were calling in dogs from Everett. Newland Street,Sammett Street all in that area.

Yes it is getting very old. Nothing being done to change it. More police on the street is the answer, beat cops, etc. Of course Mayor is more concerned about moving City Hall, Department of Public Works etc. He needs to focus on this or there won't be enough taxpayers left to do anything. So far we have been lucky it has been largely confined to certain area's but it will spread. The only question is where is the money going to come from to get the extra resources needed as this years budget is already done since June. Crime Crime Crime it should be the only priority.

If you wait to rebuild City Hall until everything is perfect, you will never rebuild it, and we desperately need it -- however I agree more beat cops, undercover ones needed in target areas, although they already are keeping an eye on those "impact players" or known bad guys in the area.

this has just become an accepted "way of life" in Malden. i remember the shock people were in with the first shooting. now it is just ho hum, what are you going to do.

Before we move City Hall and the DPW we should know what the plans are for those locations. Someone knows something. That double store and drive-thru built across from the DPW just waiting for a tenant leads me to believe there are plans underway and they are jumping in before others can. No one moves anywhere until the admin is open and honest with us.

What will moving City Hall or the DPW do to make this city safer? Nothing. I am tired of hearing "other cities have crime, too!" Why can't we be the city that takes crime seriously? As a matter of fact, why can't we re-apply for those grants the former Chief Coye screwed up by downplaying the numbers? We certainly have a horrendous enough status now don't we?

Crime is the number one problem in Malden now. You might be a democrat or a republican or tired of politics altogether but when it comes to this we should make sure that the voices are heard and action is taken.
There are a lot of issues that needs attention but by far crime is the single most important issue Now. There needs to short term actions and long term actions but something needs to be done soon and fast.
The mayor, the Malden pd and citizens of Malden are all in this together and this has reached borderline ridiculous.

Well maybe the Mayor is Multitasking and getting everything done at once?

Everyone is blaming the Mayor and suggesting what the Police SHOULD DO i.e 24 hour details, Details are expensvie who is going to pay for them?? The Depatment of Hosuing and urban Development has grants that can be applied for for Security, I know Knewland St falls under Malden Housing who in turn is funded by HUD.

Why don't the residents in the area control their kids or speak up when shit happens, the Cops cant do their jobs if no one will talk to them

I don't think everyone is blaming the Mayor he didn't create the crime. However and I voted for him, he needs to spend almost all his time on fixing this period. Everything else needs to go on the backburner or you can forget about all the other stuff as nobody is going to want to live here. If you have kids you are worried just letting them walk around or God forbid ride the new bike trail which is a great thing. If enough bullets fly from not random acts eventually one of those bullets randomly hits some innnocent person. In the end the Mayor is head guy and he is responsible to fix it. If he doesn't kiss the value of your home goodbye. When issues like this happened with the last Mayor cops would be all over the streets. Presence everywhere, Sheriffs office on the Street with that big vehicle lighting it all up. What has happened since Lincoln Commons meeting with that DA talking nonsense.

well according to the woman who spoke at the last meeting on Lincoln Commons (not sure if she was an assistant d.a.) ours is not a unique problem. doesn't that make you feel better? I agree that the Mayor did not cause this problem but that it is his job to put things in place or seek help to solve the problem. I do, however, have to disagree with the implication that the previous Mayor did a better job. I still believe it is with him that some of the responsibility lies for the mess we are in. And as far as the new "bike trail", we needed this WHY? And then we have the ward coun., well at least mine in Ward 7. No response to e-mail after the crime meeting, but there he was big as life schmoozing at the polls! I swore I wasn't going to comment on any of these stories any more, but sorry sometimes I just can't help myself.

I moved out of Malden but still own property there and I work in Cambridge...When people from the Ringe Ave. projects are asking me "yo you from Malden they be banging (gang term) and shootin like crazy up in there what the deal" and I say I heard they tell me H-mob (Haitian gang) KINGS (latino gang) Bloods and Crips (mixed race gangs) etc. are all over Malden I ask how they know and they say they all do time together and network...So when they are released on the streets they have networks of drugs and prostitution and credit card scams welfare scams rmv scams etc.... I was shocked!!!! Its city to city ....It sucks my property won't be holding it's value very long...

Did I miss something? How was a shooting confirmed with no ballistics evidence and no witnesses/injuries?

The cops get called all the time for "gunshots reported", only to get to the scene and find it was only fireworks. Just sayin'.

You're mocking people's concerns and that shows a great deal about the type of person you are. I don't think this mayor has anything to do with this violence. Maybe it wouldn't be called an uptick or be made fun of by you if it was happening on your doorstep. Being tough on the internet solves nothing. Why don't you get involved?

Mike G: I read your comments and it makes me wonder if you aren't the poster boy for the attitude City Hall has for us citizens and while they would never say what you say in public, they secretly cheer you on. I have offered several suggestions on making Malden a better city and have in fact spent many hours of my time working on just that. I am not alone and not any better than other citizens who live here. Many people have offered suggestions and none are taken unless they include moving City Hall or taxing the citizens more. With a new Mayor, I had hopes for a new way of thinking and new initiatives for the city. The Teen Center is a start but we need way more than just that.

We need more officers on the street, plain cloths, gang unit and k9 units. It seems like everytime when bad things happened in Malden, Our police department will have to use other departments dogs. Do we have any k9s in Malden? What about citizen patrol group or citizen police academy? What about a small sub station in each neighborhood where residents can go to report non emergency incidents or just to talk to the officers?

officers are buisy and expencive how about people that live next or in clear view of these parks set up security cameras and a special abatement on property taxes for having these cameras on there property. the cameras today are even wireless and can send direct signal to the police station .this would make sence but imm sure this option wouldnt even be considered knowing malden

there has been a lot of armed robberies in the areas by Malden station. Why no coeverage of them. The city needs help, There are other resources other than just the MPD. Bring in outside help? Hire a chief and commisioner that know how to deal with gangs? I
