UPDATE: Police confirm a female victim has died in the accident.

Original story: Scanner reports indicate two pedestrians were hit by a car near 22 Broadway, disrupting traffic and causing serious injuries.

One witness on Facebook said she saw two people lying on the street at the scene. Responders also dispatched a third ambulance for the uninjured but "emotional" driver of the vehicle.

One victim was taken to Mass General Hospital with a "trauma alert." The condition of the second victim was unclear.

Lt. Det. Marc Gatcomb said that the victims were aged 50 and 45, from Malden.

Avoid the area, as the scene has caused traffic disruptions.

More information to come as it becomes available.

I live right there and I almost hit someone too. Very dark in that stretch and victim was in black clothes. Very hard to see ppl crossing there. Lights need to be put in asap. And most ppl who get into accident immed start to call ppl or text ppl bc of the situation that just happened and being scared. Don't assume texting was the cause until records show it was so. All you have done is start something that ppl are going to read without any proof when the fact still can be horrific accident due to improper lighting. Keep ur assumptions too yourself until facts come out. Just sayin

Are you blaming the lack of lighting and pedestrians in black clothes for this accident? You said, "the fact still can be horrific accident due to improper lighting. Keep ur assumptions too yourself until facts come out. Just sayin" The fact is texting while driving can still be the cause....just sayin'. I'm wondering how many pedestrians have been hit there in the last 20 years.

Broadway is a mess. It is a combination residential and commercial area which I believe is now designated as a commercial zone. The road has not been paved in years and the line markings are all faded. The area where the victims were hit is heavily traveled by both pedestrians and traffic coming from all directions, the main road, side streets and out of retail and fast food restaurants, Cars speed up and down it like it is a regular Interstate Highway. Pavement trucks bombard up it during the wee hours of the morning back and forth from the gravel site on the side near Route 1 entrance. Telephone poles are wiped out all the time, cars parked in driveways hit by distracted motorists. They have recently placed signage at the Mayor's pet project bike path- a sign warning motorists with flashing yellow lights where the bike path is, but removed a similar blinking sign warning lights at the dangerous curve across from 500 area of Broadway years ago! The intersection with Salem Street is another disaster waiting to happen...with so many school kids crossing daily with crossing guards who are too scared to walk into the middle of the crosswalk to help them cross, and instead just step off the curb, holding up their stop signs, hoping drivers will see and obey. Broadway needs a complete revamping. They do it in sections when new retail or apartment complexes open, but the rest of it is neglected and needs maintenance, speed enforcement, signage and signals .

Broadway or Route 99 has always been an alternative to motorists looking to circumvent the tolls located on the Tobin Bridge.
It essentially parallels Route 1 until they meet in Rutherford Ave in Charelstown.

The last thing that area needed was a CVS it was a traffic nightmare before then and it is even worse now and then add to it the new Bike path, we can only hope that accidents as bad as the one last night are few and far between though it's probably unlikely.

I go by that same exact Spot everyday for about 10 years, I fuel my car tank at that station, and I've seen many accidents at that intercection, there are no Poll Lights there, no STOP signs, no SIGNALS at the most dangerous place in the "Malden/Everett" Line , why don't these cities put some Traffic Lights there????

This can happen to anyone at that intersection, It's too dark to see who's crossing from the other side, The driver can't help if that place is a Tragic Intercection, Hello Malden and Everett City "FIX this and put Traffic Lights before others repeat the same Accidents. God Bless the driver she is Innocent, this is a shame to our city.

Had to remove a comment that was potentially libelous. Let's refrain from talking about the nature of cases unless we have confirmation from the police.

Hi Chris.
I posted and got notice that it was here, but it is gone. Was mine the one you removed? There was nothing even close to libeous so I do not know why it's not here.

I removed your comment because it referred to the claim in the original troublesome post. You didn't really do anything wrong but I just wanted to purge the comments section of any references. Hope that makes sense.

Why isn't there any info yet? Names, ages, sex, condition... ? Was a child involved?

These situations can get tricky for a variety of reasons. So far this information has not been made public by the PD which could be for any number of valid reasons. We just have to wait and see.

@ Karin... I attended the Old Linden School the old old brick building next to the fire station. I remember there was a girl who was hit 1st grade. I still remember her name. Many deaths occured on Broadway auto and perdestrians.
