Honor Local Acts of Kindness on the New "Malden Compliments" Page
Has a neighbor helped you out? Did an anonymous stranger come to the rescue? You can give their good deed a taste of the spotlight on a new Facebook page dedicated to honoring kindness in the city.
Has a fellow Maldonian done something nice for you lately? Has a friend impressed you with their generosity, kindness or just plain good vibes?
Now you can honor them before your neighbors on "Malden Compliments," a new Facebook page dedicated to recognizing the little (and not-so-little) acts of kindness often overlooked in the city.
The page, created by Malden Patch editor Chris Caesar, is similar to other "Compliments", seen mostly on college campuses.
As of late Thursday night, the page had quickly grown to over 85 likes.
"Right after the blizzard, six good samaritans spent over 30 minutes getting my friend's car unstuck from a ginormous snowbank," Diana Gentile wrote. "Thank you guys! You spared him a tow, and saved Saturday night. :)"
"The snow in Malden a couple of weeks ago was something else, my twin boys and I were trying to get to the YMCA - on foot," Rachel B. posted. "Not an easy task with a double-stroller and high snowbanks everywhere. I had to fold up my stroller and try to wrangle both kids trying to cross at a light at Mountain Avenue.
"I was literally trying to throw my stroller over a snowbank when a DPW worker stopped traffic in his truck, got out and lifted one of my kids over the snowbank and helped us cross the street. Cars were honking and he kept helping us until we were safely on the other side of the street. Thanks guy from the DPW:) Malden has a heart."
You can add a compliment of your own or read some more here.

I have seen some terrific acts of kindness in Malden and am saddened that there are zero comments here.

Bob, you should definitely share those stories! There are a couple on the Facebook page. I really hope we'll get some more...

My husband, Hubert Holley, was in the convenience store across from the charter school on Highland Ave. a few days ago. A Chinese man who couldn't speak English was in there and had given his cell phone to the clerk (who was of a different foreign background) so he could speak to the person on the other end. It was not working out so my husband got on the phone, listened, and offered to drive the man to his destination -- the Malden YMCA. Apparently a relative was waiting for him there. The Chinese man was very thankful.

This past storm I had a young teen about 15 years of age offer to shovel for me. He told my husband his name was Greg and proceeded to shovel our entire walkway. When this fine boy was done he knocked on the door to let us know he was done and my husband gave him 40 cash. This young boy said no thanks and smiled. He would not take the money he just walked away. He was a blessing to us because as senior citizens we can't get out. Greg from the West End TY

Wow. I don't know a lot of teenagers that would turn down $40! Hopefully karma rewards him. :)

He was such a nice young teen. My husband was surprised as well. Guess there are still some great kids out there. Both of us appreciated his help.

I took my 95-lb dog out during the blizzard and was having some trouble controlling him in the deep snow when I was trying to pick up his waste - a nice lady walking by volunteered to pick it up for me!
