Man Shot Near Cross and Henry St. Monday
Police are emphasizing the attack was “not a random incident” in a neighborhood already struck by a drive-by shooting last August. The victim sustained non-life threatening injuries.
A Monday night shooting near Cross and Henry St. remains under investigation Tuesday, with police emphasizing the attack was “not a random incident” in a neighborhood already struck by a drive-by shooting last August.
Neighbors reported hearing 4-5 shots – with one noting an audible scream – around 9:30 p.m. Monday, despite the ongoing effects of Hurricane Sandy.
The victim left the scene but was later found at his home with a gunshot wound to the leg. Though he was hospitalized, the injuries were not considered life threatening, Lt. Det. Marc Gatcomb wrote Tuesday morning.
“The victim, suspect, and witness were associates,” he wrote. “...This incident is not related to any crime related matters in and around the Cross St area.”
More information on the circumstances is expected later Tuesday morning.

Very sad. City needs to focus on this issue number one. Gotta get more cops and put them in that neighborhood. Our home values are dropping and this Mayor although concerned isn't getting it done. Forget about all the ancillary things focus.

I was listening to my scanner and I thought it was my imagination. You here it so much that its like it supposed to happen. On the lighter side the city employees and police and fire did one hell of a good job through this storm. Much Danger out there for them tonight. The Mayor is right on top of everything. A huge Thank You for the City of Malden's Employees.

Yes Chris the Mayor moved after the fact and that is why we are waiting. Shouldv'e made it first priority in January when he got in or at least during his first budget. He didn't and now the hires will only put us back where the city was. Again he's trying to do a good job just not focused on the right issue. Can put money into everything else but unless he makes it safe forget about it.

Micheal how can you say the the former Mayor Howard is the one who didn't give a crap. Chistonson is been right up front. These people didnt just fly in overnite, theve been here. Guns n Drugs have been in the city for years. I have a police scanner and Ill tell you that everynite they are out there right on top. Everytime there is a shooting its allways after the fact. Only Camera's and people who are vigalant can fix this. Every crime was hushed up with Howard in office. He only had concerns for real estate and not giving Malden a Bad Name so to lower the values. Howard didn't take care of bussiness and thats why thge scum crept up and took over leaving it on Christonson's back.

Crime has to be number one on the agenda, not enriching teen, not demolishing city hall, not putting a fire station on every corner, not blue bags green bags, not field of dreams.
All these are nice and important but this is borderline ridiculous where we are heading and crime has to be the number one priority.

Bought my house here 22 years ago. Raised my family and never felt unsafe. In 2 months there have been 5 shootings - last night on Cross Street only 2 blocks from my home. Not sure whether people always had guns in our city or just now these dumb kids are using them. Gun violence is bigger than Malden. I only know the mayor as a good city councilor for Ward 1 - and think he is doing the best job possible under very difficult situation. Am not going to be critical - it is easy to be sarcastic. Malden is not a ghetto.

Mayor is a good man but he is not paying attention to this other than giving it lip service. City Hall is priority now? Give me a break get your head together and for God's sake stop worrying about press conferences and image.

Don't know. I do personally know a Malden police officer that could not join us to watch the football game on Sunday because he had to respond and investigate a shooting. Not the first violent crime that was not on this site. Just wondering if the mayor is trying to keep these things quite. Again, He is doing a way better job then mayor no show and does seem to genuinely be trying to address the issue

Certainly not. Really, I am just a one man show, and sometimes things can get lost in the cracks. I encourage you if you ever hear anything you think I've missed, throw me an email: malden@patch.com or call me at 781-606-4139. A shooting is something I would definitely cover, always and no matter what. Thanks, Jirkyrick.

The current Mayor has done nothing but talk. Violent crime is worse than its ever been. He did nothing to put more cops on in this last budget and didn't react until the bullets started flying. Now we sit and wait. Just needs to focus on this one thing all the other stuff will mean nothing if crime is not fixed. He is to worried about his image and what everyone thinks instead of taking some real action.

I understand cops cant be everywhere all the time but there seems to be a lack of priority in keeping this city safe...it's getting worse not better. I also think it's strange that this didnt make the news..Home owners think about it every time Malden is in the news for a shooting you can decrease your home value another 5K.

Is there a neighborhood watch group in this area? Is this spillover crime from Everett? Or is this an internal (Malden) issue? What is being done at the community level to deal with this? I find this quite alarming.

I have a lot on my plate because of the hurricane, but the alleged perpetrators in the Summer St. robberies have been arrested. I will have more on that sometime soon.
The other shooting happened near Elmwood Pharmacy, no injuries. Subjects were known to each other. I'm writing that story right now.

I have never seen a basis for crime being covered up in the city. The city maintains an active crime map with every police call requiring a report on it.

No put the blame on the thugs. Stop blaming other people for whats being done by criminals. Yes the mayor is the one who has to figure it all out but the gangs and those who hide them are the problem. More cops wpuld be great but helping when you know some thing would work right along with that.
