REPORT: Malden High is State's Most Racially Diverse
The school came on top according to an analysis conducted by GoLocalWorcester.com.
Well-touted as the Commonwealth's second most diverse city, a new report finds Malden has yet another feather in its multi-cultural cap: the state's most diverse public high school.
According to GoLocalWorcester.com, Malden High School student body is the most equally distributed among race categories, with:
- 31.4 percent white.
- 24.3 percent black.
- 23.2 percent Asian/Pacific Islander.
- 17.7 percent hispanic.
- .8 percent American Indian/Alaskan.
- 2.6 percent that were two or more races.
Schools were ranked based on their consistent distribution across all racial categories, using data obtained from the Institute for Education Science's National Center for Education Statistics.
Dorchester's Boston Latin Academy came in second place in the study, with Worcester's South High Community in third.

More PC B.S. What in Gods name does this have to do with whether the education is good or bad. Nothing. Of course this will give those running the education system in Malden something to say they are the best at. Championship Girls softball now that's something to brag about. Kids they send to Ivy league schools that something to brag about. This is simply stupid Department of Education everybody gets a feels good report nonsense.

I could see a lot of reasons why diversity would be a positive influence in a school environment.

Chris- how many people come to Malden because of it's public school system? I'd put the number at zero. I could make a better argument that gentrification is better for a school system than diversification. Not that I think this is the way it should work, it just happens to be the way it does work.

Gentrification = higher property taxes = more money for the schools (theoretically). Does not necessarily mean better schools, and can price people out of their homes.

I'm not saying it's the most important factor (not really my place to say), but I'd say it's a little more nuanced than Victor's "More PC BS".

The schools stink, crimes up, property values are down, cost of services are way up, 25 people living in the house next to me, two abondoned cars in the driveway, graffiti on a brand new car parked on the street(for over a year), beautiful houses on the street falling down, trash everywhere and my neighbors almost killed in a fire this weekend because some people refuse to take their responsibility as home owner seriously!
On the bright side my neighborhood has become very diverse since I moved in.

Andrew, I asked you "how is diversity not working for the schools?" You wrote a lot of things but to my question all I got was "the schools suck." I disagree. My daughter came out of MHS with a full ride to U-Mass. My son is still in the high school. He gets lots of opportunities to explore his curiosity and participate in extracurricular activities. Last time I checked well more than half of MHS students go on to secondary education. Looks good to me.

And Andrew, before you start the battle cry of "RARR HE'S BLAMING THE VICTIM", I'm not; I'm just asking you to consider why your house and car were broken into, especially twice.
All too many times people seem to think that they can leave their cars unlocked with all sorts of valuables in it, as well as their house's doors unlocked at all points of entry, but then when they get robbed, they scratch their heads and just blame the environment they're in.

Andrew, my property value has gone up by about $20,000 in the past 3 years. 5-year stats are still within the 2008-2009 housing bubble, so that's not really a good measure. Don't confuse this with assessed value, which is completely different. If everyone's assessed values went up, we'd all be having a heart attack thanks to higher taxes.

I loved the education I got from Malden High School, which led me to attend a top liberal arts college. The majority of my peers agree that diversity makes a big difference. We go out into college and the "real world" as more culturally aware and open minded. I see a lot of complaints on Patch about how dirty and dangerous Malden is. You don't know what trashy streets and constant crime are like until you move to a bigger city, like Philadelphia. Whenever I go back to Malden to visit home, I feel like I'm practically in a suburb. If you don't like the way things are, then do something about it and/or move somewhere else.

Bruce you have hit it right on the mark. Counting heads by color has no place in America. We should be judged by the content of our character how did we ever get to this point. Diana makes her foolish statement as usual as a comeback sluring people of another color. My guess is she went to some nice suburban school somewhere and living in Malden makes her feel good about herself now. People are people good, bad, skinny, fat etc etc. Want to talk about waste in government...paying people to collect this crap and analyze it. This should be outlawed.
Diana

Grew up in Malden, went to Malden High, somehow failed to notice when "white" became a slur, let alone from a white person.
And don't fret, I'm totally judging you by the content of your character.

In this Country it should be irrelevant. But count on this Chris if they keep promoting this there will be no diversity in a decade or two in Malden and Diana with all her character will be long gone. This nonsense is will bring to education in Malden what forced busing brought to Boston and every major city it was ever enacted. That wonderful idea created by the same type of clowns who thought this up did a real good job for the education in all those cities. Love to see someone defend that. The only way to get to true equality is by being colorblind. Again it is an abomination that our government spends one dime on counting heads by color.

It'd be lovely to live in a color-blind society, but the fact is that this is a town where just a couple of months ago a well-known (if not especially well-regarded) City Councilor wrote on the Patch facebook page that (paraphrased) it's just human nature to be a little racist. We have a ways to go, people.

>This nonsense is will bring to education in Malden what forced busing brought to Boston and every major city it was ever enacted.
To what "nonsense" are you referring? The co-mingling of races? You're suggesting an organically diverse high school is somehow comparable to forced busing, and say it will bring all the same problems that move did 40 years ago? I'm curious: like what?
>That wonderful idea created by the same type of clowns
Most people have a more nuanced view of racial desegregation, but okay.
>The only way to get to true equality is by being colorblind
Thanks, but I'm not sure you're my go-to guy for racial equality advice at this point.

Sorry AppleBottom02148, I had to delete that for the gratuitous use of caps, and while I know you were condemning the words and not using them in a racist context, the use of racial slurs is something I'd have to erase anyway. I hope that makes sense.
