VIDEO: Ballpark Public Hearing Tonight

The hearing is scheduled from 6-8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 4 at Government Center.

On Monday, February 4th, Mayor Gary Christenson and the Malden Redevelopment Authority will hold a Public Hearing in the City Council Chambers, Malden Government Center, 200 Pleasant Street, from 6:00-8:00 PM, to seek input from residents and businesses on the proposal for a professional baseball ballpark in Malden.

The purpose of the public hearing is to provide an update of “next steps” associated with this major economic development project, which will include the adoption of an urban renewal plan for the development area. The public will have the opportunity at the public hearing to ask questions about the process and to comment on the proposed $51 Million private investment project from Boston Baseball Field of Dreams, LLC.

Those with several questions are strongly encouraged to submit them in writing, due to time constraints.

The ballpark will have a 6,500-person capacity and is being proposed for the four parcels located within the boundaries of Commercial, Centre, Canal, and Charles Streets. In addition to 70-plus professional baseball games being played annually, the ballpark will include locker facilities for Malden High School’s baseball team and will also afford other local sports organizations the opportunity to play at the park.

The proposed redeveloper has also proposed many civic uses such as concerts, meeting facilities, graduations and other winter uses.
