Police Secure Warrant for Bank Robbery Suspect
Malden Police have secured an arrest warrant for Joseph Barberi, allegedly responsible for the bank robbery at the Main St. Citizens Bank last December.
A Malden man recently arrested in connection with a Saugus bank robbery will also face charges related to a heist in Malden, police said Friday.
Jospeh Barberi, 34, allegedly entered the Citizens Bank at 399 Main St. and demanded money last December.
Malden Police Lt. Det. Marc Gatcomb said police believed Barberi was a "serial" bank robber, responsible for a number of open cases in the area.
"After a lengthy investigation in conjunction with the Saugus Police and FBI Bank Robbery Task Force, it was learned that Barberi was responsible for several bank robberies," Gatcomb wrote in an emailed press release.
"An arrest warrant was secured for one of the acts committed in Saugus and investigators were then able to establish the requisite probable cause for an arrest warrant for the Malden robbery."
Barberi's arraignment date in Malden District Court was not immediately available Friday.
