PHOTOS: Malden High Renovations Ready For First Day of School
New additions include a renovated science wing, a new entrance and a student gallery space.
This won't be a normal first day of school for returning Malden High School upperclassmen Thursday – over $77 million in continuing renovations offer students a new science wing, two remodeled cafeterias and a gorgeous main entryway to the school.
Principal Dana Brown said that most of the renovations were “under the floor and above the ceiling” - specifically, updates to the building's heating and cooling systems.
But, there are still some eye-catching bells and whistles: chemistry labs now have separate preparation rooms, where teachers can safely store chemicals and prepare labs in a controlled setting.
The school also installed over 100 interactive whiteboards in its classrooms, which allow teachers to project interactive computer images on a whiteboard.
Brown said the school would also begin a discontinued TV studio in the school, though the studio may not be ready until January.
