Neil Armstrong Dead at 82, Share Your Moon Landing Memories

The first man on the Moon died Saturday at 82.

 

Neil Armstrong, the first person to walk on the Moon, died Saturday at 82, according to NBC News.

Armstrong recently had heart surgery, according to NBC News. He was part of the team of NASA astronauts aboard Apollo 11 in 1969, the first spacecraft to land on the Moon. Armstrong was the first of the crew to set foot on the Moon, an event that was broadcast around the world. He famously coined the phrase: "That's one small step for man. One giant leap for mankind."

I remember the event well - it's memorialized in my 7-year-old brain as the day I was bored with the grainy visuals on the TV, asked my mother for something to do, and she sat me down in front of the TV and had me make a drawing, explaining the importance of what was happening. I still have that drawing, posted above!
