How did I know the people that always gripe about how awful everything is around here and cry for more police officers would still have something negative to say?

It's like a broken record......unfortunately it becomes blah, blah, blah at some point.

That was my first thought as well. I think from now on I'm going to skip the comments sections altogether. There is never any constructive discussion.

Kathleen - There is constructive conversation. I've seen it. The problem is that it gets shouted down or buried beneath the less-than-constructive conversations that spin off as a result.

Congratulations, (soon-to-be) Officers. Come back to Malden and do a few things for this community after you graduate, please? Do the Right Thing, even when your collleagues don't; listen to other officers in other communities as well as your own and see what you can do better than them, and better than the status quo here; and don't be afraid to get to know the civilians on your beat.

That is an interesting way to welcome these new officers by bashing the current ones.

Kevin - How is that bashing current LEOs? It's a general request. Sheesh.

Or is striving to always be better than you are a bad thing?

You know what? I know that these men will work with collegues who don't. How? Because everyone does. And in organizations that provide first and emergency services, it's easy for new recruits to get the wrong message imparted to them by one or two seasoned NCOs/Officers/Supervisors. I've seen it happen time and again, no matter where I've been stationed. It was a general statement. It was one that my own Basic Training Cadre left US with when we graduated. It's an acknowledgement that not everyone who wears a uniform does the right thing and that it's on those who are coming in, and who are the future of the service we/they have chosen to help change that and maybe someday, eliminate that mentality altogether.

So, no. It wasn't a slam on any MPD LEOs or anyone else specifically. I'm sorry for thinking that perhaps some good advice I once received as a new recruit from my own trainers might be similarly appropriate here.
