Winter is here and my concerns are the streets getting plowed the right way. It is hard to use my driveway when I plow before work and by the time I get home my driveway is blocked. The plow trucks come by and plow and it leaves mounds of snow so heavy we can't snowblow it or shovel it. I take the time to clear myself out a
s di many others to have the DPW trucks plow and block it. We are not all youngsters anymore and at time shoveling heavy snow is just to much. At my age I can do a small sidewalk path and my driveway but have to pay the local kids to do the rest. I know I can't be the only resident who has this problem.

I don't think there's a lot that can be done about that. They don't make plows that skip your driveway opening....

Are you getting rid of the Pay per throw system? It has always been inconvenient but now with Johnny's Foodmaster gone it is even more inconvenient. It seems the only place left who supplies bags is the Stop & Shop and often times the bags are unavailable there and you have to go back to get them. Why can't we switch to the trash system they have in Medford?

Lisa: The Mayor promised a big announcement after Labor Day and in November is just putting out a survey. The voters spoke loud and clear to ELIMINATE THE TRASH TAX and the Mayor ran on this issue promising an end. I want to know why the citizens of Malden are not worthy of a program like Everett and Medford has? After all, every time the Council wants to slap another tax on us (meals and now the parking sticker) they sing the tune "everyone else is doing it". Why are we forced to use crappy bags and barrels that allow the recycleables to blow all over the city? Don't we deserve better?

From what I have heard, Stop and Shop will be moving in where Johnnie's was, and they will be doing so fairly promptly and Stop and Shop should be open there by the end of the year. (This is in contrast to Whole Foods, which will be dragging their feet and opening their new Johnnie's locations in September.) http://www.stopandshop.com/about_us/news_media/press_release.htm?p=f9104563-997c-4b37-bf6e-d240c710e611

I don't remember the previous mayor doing any of these. I also only remember public meetings with the last mayor when they were forced upon him. This mayor is trying and returns phone calls too.

1) Baseball Field Update or has the dream of fields or fields of dream died?
2) Reconsider the Middlesex Street reversed route; take a poll if you want to because this clearly goes against common sense?
3) More Crime Sweep like the last one? Any new initiatives to address the crime situation?
Or should we just get used to live with the random shooting here and there with a sprinkle of occasional bank robberies and o so often break ins and burglaries.
4) When will we hear about the Blue bags update? Every Monday morning is a new experience trying to put bags in bags and not tearing the blue bags, which is clearly the worst quality bag in the state if not the country or the world.
5) Parking Program Update?
And lastly thank you for raising the tax exemption from 20% to 30%.
To make up for the revenue lost, please consider doubling or at least raising the tax on non-owner occupied absentee landlord multi-family housing units.

How will the City make up the 30%?? You cant raise the commercial rate, well, you could....but then there would be plenty more empty store fronts. With the increase the Blue bags are going to stay, along with other ways to increase revenues. I appreciate the exemption, I also know that the city needs to make this up, and probably on our backs. Our own little fiscal cliff here in Malden.

I would rather they decrease the exemption to equal the amount they make of blue bags. My real estate tax is a deduction I can take on my fed taxes, the Blue Bag tax is not a deduction I can take.... Math hmmm its a funny thing, but what do expect from a former mayor that did not know how to use a basic spreadsheet

mr. mayor, please just keep the citizens informed on as much as you can, even if it is unpopular, you will definitely get more respect for not hiding things and keeping us informed on things we ask about.i am sure sometimes you will come across topics that will make you uncomfortable but like so many politicians do when that happens, don't ignore it, the people notice these things, thanks from someone who wants you to have great success running this city.

I love our Mayor !!! My mother's neighborhood was becoming very scary and he has had it flooded with the police since my email to him from my sisters and I. Thank you and keep up the good work. I recommend anyone with concerns for their family's neighborhood to contact the mayors office and tell them the problem. It worked well for us and I'm sure it can for everyone.

I have 2 questions for the Mayor.
1. How do I apply for the residential tax exemption?
2. On trash day the recycle bins are not completely emptied and there seems to be more trash on the street also. Who do I contact about this?

1. If you have already applied for the exemption, the adjustment to 30% would automatically be applied. If you haven't applied previously ever, you can go to city hall Or call the Assessor’s Office at (781) 397-7100 or email them at assessor@cityofmalden.org.
2. I noticed the same thing. My recycle bucket were emptied but left recyclables on the sidewalk/street.

I have a question regarding the residential tax exemption as well. I bought my house in April 27th, 2012. can I file for this exemption this year, or do I have to wait until next year ?
