Man Overdoses on Methadone at Malden Center
MBTA police reported that the 28 year old south Boston man was alert when transported to an area hospital during rush hour Thursday.
An unidentified 28-year-old South Boston man overdosed on methadone while on the platform at Malden Center, a watch commander with the MBTA police department said Wednesday.
EMTs and an MBTA police officer responded to the scene and ultimately transported the man to Melrose/Wakefield hospital around 5:45 p.m.
Some reports on social media suggested the man had died at the station, though an officer at the scene reported the man was alert and responsive.
No further information was available Wednesday night.

Malden Police Take care of most calls there. They are the first responders. As far as the T cops go there Johnny come lately's. You have to call the Dough Boy Donuts on Dot Ave and you'll get a quick responce. The T should be paying Malden Officers instead

Micheal because its now a disability. Treated like a sickness and paid for on our dime. I hate drugs and people who are on them. I have one son who totaly destroyed a decent family with his druggie ways and lies. My family. Me I would stick them all on an Island give em a pick n shovel and let them work it off. We taxpayers are paying there way with drug programs..rides to Meth Clinics..Medicare fraud you name it. Been in the Trash bussiness for over 30 years and finding needles used has been rampid for those times. You are right its happens all the time.

No only that the "disability" allows them to be placed into public housing, often in one of the citys senior centers, so these disabled drug addicts are living next to your (or someones) grandmother.... nice.

Malden Crime Watch is "dying" for another murder...its been too quiet lately which is bad for crimewatch business. Maybe they will fabricate some more events.

What did they fabricate? I don't think they are making any money off of their Facebook page.

Frank are you serious pal. Why don't you try doing something about the crime in our city like the rest of us, instead of just sitting around reading about it and then chucking comments that make absolutely no sense. There are no quiet days in this city anymore. Try buyig a scanner and listening and you will hear just how busy this city is. Please Frank, give us one example of a crime that has been fabricated by Malden Crime Watch. Get your head out of your....don't think I have to finish for you to figure out where you need to remove it from.

While I don't agree with your sentiment, it does seem that "Malden Crime Watch" has become a political movement, as opposed to a legitimate crime watch. I'd be reluctant to take part in it, as they seem highly opinionated on their facebook page. I'm sure I'm not the only one that feels alienated by their politics.

Guys, fair points about this being somewhat common. My pitch for it's newsworthiness is: some people thought they saw a dead person at the tracks and I wanted to clear up any rumors about it (there were tweets to that effect on Twitter) going around. Otherwise, I probably would've left it alone.

Lol, I'm sorry Chris....there were Tweets about a dead guy lying around? I bet no one called the police, UNTIL, they posted it on Twitter and Facebook. Gotta love those 'social' networking sites. What the hell have we become?

For those who don't feel that it's "newsworthy"...what part about someone ODing on Methadone, on a public transportation platform, at the peak of rush-hour, is NOT newsworthy? This didn't happen behind closed doors, in the dark, late at night. It happened in front of a crush of commuters on a public transportation platform in broad daylight.
And frankly, the more that overdoses and other "un-newsworthy" incidents of drug use and even petty crimes related to that drug use are spotlighted, the less that we as a community will be able to ignore it, from the top on down. Only THEN will something be done about it - when it's brought into the light and held up for everyone to see without rumor or speculation.

They used to have teh DARE program. Total failure. All that did is "educate" kids as to what drugs are and then they use them. They find out it is "fun" and go to school stoned all the time. The dumb down schools will pass anybody. All of a sudden, they are in society, useless, and start drinking. Drinking is the worst drug of all and believe me, Malden has had a drinking problem since the late 1800s. If we are just starting to realize that this is a problem now, we are blind.

Maybe, the "drug rehab" places are not doing their job properly in treating these patients, and are only in it for the money. The government needs to have better regulations, supervision and checks and balances to oversee drug treatment programs throughout the country. Michael Genzale made a comment about the need for more funding to conduct public education of both children and adults about the dangers and pitfalls of drug addiction, and I wholeheartedly agree with this statement, as this drug addiction epidemic is getting way out of hand.

There ARE jobs out there... THe problem is our sense of entitlement. During the Great Depression, people would shine shoes if they thought that would help pay their bills. Nowadays, I could pull a list of jobs available on craigslist, and unemployed folks would rather keep collecting instead of taking a job that pays less than they think they're worth.

I think the problem goes beyond a sense of entitlement; the recession isn't the result of the labor force being lazy.

All the jobs went south and overseas starting back as far as the 70's. Where are the jobs? Office jobs..High Tech jobs maybe. Where's the factories..steel companies..wood shops where? Even in Malden they left. Forced out. Remember Mayor Howard wanted Malden to be a bedroom comunity like Lynnfiel. NOT. Its not going to happen. Weve become a city of concrete we need industry back. Does any one remember the Converse Rubber..Lewis Candy..Easyern Ave with all its aluminum window and door factories...Acme Canvas? Many many more.

Um, David, I'm sure you didn't get the email, but Converse Rubber was dumping vulcanizing material to manufacture their rubber, right at the end of Pearl Street. You want another 'success' story like that in Malden?

yeah and look at what kayanzee paint did to chelsea, so thats your excuse to not bring back factories? Because companies legally dumped garbage into the river 50 years ago? Don't you think some sort industry would be better than 50 nail salons and 49 Pizza shops?

Yes Paul all the companies were doing some type. But that was before the EPA was around. One of your biggest poluters is the MBTA. One instance is that the steel fabricating shop was letting a flow of Cyanide into the Mystic. They use Cyaninide for hardening. Seen it myself. But the MBTA is untouchable. New houses were built on top of backwoods junk sites up on North Broadway..Yes Paul what you say is true but there was no such thing back then as enviremental protection.

There is only one way to fight crime. To fix the present and future of this City You must first look at its history. Good place to start is in the Library and the crime reports that the Malden News back say till the 70's. 80 and 81 there was much trouble with the Law inforcement.I remember the headlines back then in the Malden News where there was lots of dislike and desention amongst officers...Then the mid 70's The Allmighty T station opened up and they plugged up Pleasent Street with City Hall. Thats the beginning with Leaky Roofs that went on for years. One must look back then youll be able to move foward and solve the issues in Malden.
