Man Found Dead Near City Hall Sunday Morning
Police have not released any identifying information, as the investigation into the cause of death continues.
Police confirmed the body of a 34-year-old homeless man was found near Malden Government Center Sunday morning, though his name has not yet been released pending the findings of a police investigation.
Detectives could not say if the death was an accident or related to foul play at this time.
"The matter is under investigation at this time so we cannot comment further on a possible cause of death," Lt. Det. Marc Gatcomb said. "The matter is being investigated by Malden and State Police detectives."
Gatcomb said the man was "known to the department" and a staple of the city's homeless population.
Anyone with information about the circumstances are urged to contact Malden Detectives at (781) 397-7181.

eye witness at the crime seen told me beaten to death, but then again, its not official and has not been investigated so who knows. Still a little weird that it took over 24 hours and only until you asked that this was released to the publlc, unless they where not letting the public know for investigative reasons. I just don't trust the Malden Police leadership when after all those years under Howard they denied and continue to deny that there is a crime problem in Malden

Maybe Mayor Christianson could investigate it.

A homeless encampment is right under the Mayors office. They have their little community set up right outside the doors on the plaza side, that are never used. Its comforting to see, actually its very sad, but.... One day walking up the ramp to the plaza from Commercial st a person, female squatted down right there on the ramp to relive herself. Time to clean it up and get some services for these poor souls, if they want it, if not, at least move them to a shelter.

Kind of over the top with that staement there Tracy, the Police in Malden do a good job and the dead man could have been in that section of City Hall all night and not seen by anyone very easily.

If the man WAS MURDERED it should be released to the public alot faster. There could be a serial killer that just moved into town and everyone should be made aware. But just guessing I bet it was an overdose. Now if they had camera's installed they would have known.

I think the whole point was was this not reported until Chris had to call the Police and ask about it. Usually dead bodies brings in all the news crews, except in Malden I guess, just another day in the city, nothing to see here or worry about citizens The top of the Police force needs a serious house cleaning

Dead homeless bodies don't get the news crews very excited, as a rule.

I know Paul will probably flip out, but can we not make dark jokes about someone's death? That's somebody's family member.

At this point any statement about the safety in this town is never over the top, just an absolute disgrace an embarrassment.

sorry to hear that this happened, but knew it would, seen him all last summer,he was so young to be living that life of endless drinking an drugging it was bound to happen. An the issue on shelters, is that they are all filled an not as safe as the general public thinks,i wish that something could be done for these people for there are many that are up at the city hall area an the orange line,so that the common people can walk an sit without seeing all these lives wasting away, arresting them is only a band aid for they are back the same day getting high again.never ending, just so sad that this has to happen in 2013,hasn't anyone learned from years past.

why is it that all the recent stories on crime say police could not comment further or no further information available and then no followup story later? Seems to be a trend.
