The Super Stop & Shop on Charles Street in Malden, store #62, presented a check for $4,339.80 to Bread of Life to help feed local hungry and homeless families, individuals and senior citizens.

This generous donation was the result of three fundraisers in the store. They ran their annual "Food for Friends" program, collecting money donations for several weeks around Thanksgiving time, all of which went to Bread of Life. They also sold family meal boxes containing enough food to feed a family, all the food and proceeds from which went to Bread of Life. Lastly, they ran a canned food drive during which costumers could purchase canned goods at the register. All of that donated food went to Bread of Life.

"We're so thankful to receive the food and financial donations," said Gabriella Snyder Stelmack, Special Projects Coordinator at Bread of Life, "We're always trying to keep up with the need which has increased about 25% over the past year." Bread of Life, headquartered in Malden, provides free evening meals, a food pantry in Malden and Everett, food delivery to senior citizens in public housing in Malden, Everett, Melrose and Wakefield, and food delivery to homeless families sheltered in local motels.

"We provide food not only for people who are homeless," said Stelmack, "but unemployed, facing eviction or foreclosure, fighting serious illness, or working and having a tough time making ends meet with rising costs of fuel and other essentials."
