Malden Crime Rate Lowest in Years

POLL: Are Maldonians too worried about crime?

Though the city still warns residents to remain vigilant against crime, new statistics released by the Malden Police Department reflect both short- and long-term improvements in the city's crime rate, for both violent and non-violent offenses.

According to the report, the total number of major crimes reported in the city are at their lowest in at least 6 years. Arrests, too, are at a six-year low.

Curious, Malden Patch retrieved local crime records maintained by the FBI from 1985-2009 (Note: Link will download a spreadsheet file), which also reflect a significant long-term drop in crime - in fact, a number of years in the 1990s saw violent crime rates more than double the city's current figures.
