Scott Brown (R), Elizabeth Warren (D): U.S. Senate
Scott Brown has represented Massachusetts in the U.S. Senate since a January 2010 special election held to fill the U.S. Senate seat vacated by the late Ted Kennedy. Brown defeated state Attorney General Martha Coakley with 1,168,107 votes, or 51.9 percent, to her 1,058,682 votes, or 47.1 percent.
Ed Markey (D), Tom Tierney (R): 5th Congressional District
Ed Markey has been the Congressman representing Winchester for the past 36 years. He faces off against Tom Tierney, a 69-year-old consulting actuary and consumer activist. In 2010, Markey defeated Republican Gerry Dembrowski by about a 2-to-1 margin.

Malden Updates From The Polls
10:40 a.m.: We're receiving mixed reports from people who either waited in long, but steady lines, and others who said they were "in and out" while voting this morning.
On Twitter, resident Fran Brown said she was the 60th voter at Forestdale School this morning, despite arriving at the station just shortly after the 7 a.m. opening.
"No line at Ferryway when I got there but went after 900am," Scott Saia said on Facebook.
"Hit the charter school at 8:25, back in the car at 8:35," @messrock tweeted.
How are the lines at your polling station? Let us know in the comments.
12:05 p.m.: Turnout was picking up around noon at Ferryway School, with this reporter experiencing about a 10 minute wait to vote.
However, when the polls opened, the line went out the front door to the street, Obama supporter and retired Medford Firefighter Ed Bryan said.
He held signs for both Elizabeth Warren and Pres. Barack Obama, and, when asked, produced a list of 8 reasons why he supported the President's re-election.
"It's a long story," he grinned.
Of particular interest to Bryan: a report that said the President has spent less money than any other modern President, though his detractors may note the both houses of Congress are controlled by the GOP.
Bryan said he was also concerned about the future of labor unions and their influence.
Malden City Councillor Neal Anderson was also seen leaving the voting box, saying he voted a straight Democratic ticket.
"It's nice to see the enthusiasm inside," he said. "...That's what our democracy should be all about."
Anderson said he intended to attend the President's "victory party" in the South End tonight.
12:45 p.m.: Just learned that Senate candidate Elizabeth Warren (D) will be visiting the city at 1:45 p.m. Tuesday, at the Laborers Local 22 at 35 Highland Ave in Malden.
According to the press release, she will be thanking phone bankers at the local.
1:15 p.m.: Be sure to bring cash to the polls! Many local youth groups are selling baked goods and other items to raise money. One reader recommends the pumpkin whoopie pies at Ferryway School.
2:00 p.m.: Elizabeth Warren was scheduled to make her last regularly scheduled campaign stop in the city today, but arrived and left earlier than the time listed on a press advisory.
A campaign representative at the Laborers Local 22 said the hustle and bustle of Election Day campaigning left Warren with a sporadic schedule.
2:20 p.m.: Polls seem to be slowing down a bit. One person was seen holding a Christopher Fallon sign outside of City Hall this afternoon, with no visible supporters outside of Beebe School.
2:35 p.m.: One reader asks that we advise voters to bring photo IDs to the polls, though we should note they are not required to vote in Massachusetts.
Instead, the reader notes her vote was challenged because she failed to fill out the 2010 census. Lacking a photo ID, she had to wait in line to have her address and name listed on the ballot for later verification by election officials, and waited to spare others the wait.
"Apparently I forgot to fill out the census and didn't bring an ID because I never had to before," she said. "There was a long line at the challenge table so I'm sure most people did not bring an ID for the same reason (I never do)."
"I'm sure (city clerk Karen) Anderson will make sure my vote counts," she added.
3:00 p.m.: Did you catch Sheriff Koutoujian and State Sen. Katherine Clark in Malden today? A Koutoujian volunteer sent us a photo of the two outside of Beebe School.
4:33 p.m.: Malden City Clerk Karen Anderson said that polling had gone smoothly so far, with some "minor problems" that were quickly addressed.
She said turnout was "about what she expected," and noted Malden had already seen about 50%.
"I think we are going to hit 75-80% tonight," she said. "...Things have quieted down in the last couple of hours but I think that...once people start getting out of work, it will pick up again."
Anderson said 75-80% was not unusual for a Presidential election in the city.

Tom Tierney's a Republican? That's funny stuff. Ed Markey wouldn't say he's for the redistribution of wealth. He may think it. But he's not stupid enough to say it. Another 'Blank" for Congress.

This morning (8am) Ward 8/Linden school officials were not allowing voters to park in school parking lot due to professional development day for teachers. Parking on the street across from the entrance was not available due to residents and Elizabeth Warren sign holders parking there forcing voters (to park and walk from Linden Street. This has never been an issue before and concerned that older and handicapped voters may have problems. Not sure if this was temporary situation or if they were directed by school or city asministration to keep voters out of lot.

Wow, that sounds absolutely ridiculous -- hope it was remedied fast and never happens again. Bad planning.

Think you are confusing Tom Tierney who is a Republican running against Markey, with Sixth District's JOHN Tierney who is running against Richard Tisei (R) Too bad "Tierney" name is such a negative because of John, because it makes defeating the pitiful partisan dinosaur Markey so much more difficult. TOM Tierney has his work cut out for him.

Someone should call the Mayors office if the polls are not accessable at ward 8 Linden School.

I was about to comment on the same thing. Whose brilliant idea was that?!?!? I couldn't even pull over to drop my handicapped mom off. Then people were driving the wrong way up and down one-way streets. Very very bad.

Every school in Malden is on a bus line. No on site parking for teachers or other school personnel Ever.

Forestdale School has on-site parking for teachers, doesn't it?

not true, Nancy... Salemwood, Forestdale, Linden, and Ferryway all have parking lots that teachers use...the only school that doesn't is Malden High School where teachers are constantly falling victim to overzealous parking clerks who ticket them while they teach our kids

No Raj, Tom Tierney is to the left of Markey. He just thinks Markey has been in office too long and avoided a sure loss in a primary against him. Now there is no Republican on the ballot. Just the Straw Man. His statement on the redistribution of wealth was in the Malden Observer. He never should have won the primary.

ok Gene, but he really doesn't have a chance anyway. Wish Republican party would get some capable and electable candidates to throw up against the dinosaurs in this state...

Update: Parking lot at Linden is now open, but only a few spots were available as of 2pm because teachers and school staff are parked there. Voting was sparse at the 2pm hour. Abandoned Elizabeth Warren signs were on the ground CLOSER than the required distance from the entrance.

I voted at the Ferryway School ward one and I was so glad to see young voters there. Even with the road construction it was a good turn out at 1:00 pm

I don't understand why on-line voting is not available. If I can pay my Federal Taxes on-line, I should be able to vote on-line.
