Library's "Local History Room" To Re-Open Tonight

The original building, first built in 1885, has been closed for renovations for years.

The following was provided by Malden City Hall.

For the last several years, the original building of the Malden Public Library has been closed to the public for renovations and restoration.  The building, originally constructed in 1885 and the last of the libraries designed by noted archictect H.H. Richardson, currently houses, among other items, the Local History Collection of the Malden Public Library.

Researchers interested in Malden history are welcome to come Monday evenings 7 to 8:30 p.m. and Wednesday afternoons 2 to 4 p.m.

Please understand as the material in this collection is unique, access wil be limited to researchers 18 and over who have or are willing to apply for a Malden/Boston or Chelsea Public Library card and wil agree to the policies of access.

Ok, I grew up in Malden, and went to the original library a lot. I haven't been in that building for years, and I wouldn't mind seeing it. I have to be a certified researcher to be allowed entrance? Does tax dollars not pay for that property?

You went to the library a lot? What did you do there?

To get in, you just need to be over 18, have or apply for a library card, and agree to the access policy, just like it explicitly says in the article. Tax dollars support all sorts of buildings that you aren't allowed to roam all willy-nilly and unsupervised.

For the reading impaired, aka Diana, "Researchers interested in Malden history are welcome to come Monday evenings 7 to 8:30 p.m. and Wednesday afternoons 2 to 4 p.m." & "access wil be limited to researchers 18 and over and over who have or are willing to apply for a Malden/Boston or Chelsea Public Library card and wil agree to the policies of access." Did I imagine any of THIS? And to the ridiculous question "what did you do there", you figure it out. Congrats on being an 'ankle-biter' Diana....and say hello to Ronald McDonald when you punch in for your shift at McDonald's :>)
