Leaders Welcome "Amira Market" to Pleasant Street
The Middle Eastern market at 18 Pleasant St. will offer a variety of groceries and meats from the region.
The Benlaatmania family opened the doors to a new Pleasant Street Middle Eastern market this week, offering groceries and meats from the region.
"Amira Market" offers both halal and deli meats, among other Mideast culinary curiosities.
Mayor Gary Christenson and Imam Hamid Bourote of the Islamic Outreach Community and Reform Center were on hand for a ribbon-cutting ceremony Monday.

I went in last week. This is a great addition to Pleasant Street. They have a good selection of groceries, and the staff were very friendly. I look forward to shopping here.

I don't know what kind of food 'halal meat' is ... But I can't wait to find out!
Good luck!

Julie, halal is similar to kosher, but it's prepared according to Muslim customs.

This place is great. The owner is super-friendly and even offered my sister and I Moroccan tea while we browsed. The store is clean and well-organized, the food is fresh. I was most impressed by how all the onions looked perfect, unlike at Stop and ____ where 95% are damaged. I will definitely go back.

Diversity makes a community strong - welcome to this new business. My neighbors are Muslim and they were very excited about this place, already told me about it as we were digging out our driveways after the blizzard. I will stop in and support the local economy.

Not really Middle-Eastern - it's more Moroccan (North African). They have a great selection of groceries. Their Moroccan olive oil is the best - not like the regular store-bought kind that has no smell. They have Tajine's (Clay pots to cook in). They're great for making meals. I like having one so close, the one by Maplewood square is a bit further down :)

Ah that's good to know - it was described as Middle Eastern in the press release but Moroccan is going to have some cool variations.

Great news! I am excited to check it out. I love the diversity of the restaurants and food stores in Malden. Another hidden gem is on the corner of Henry and Cross St, called the Corner Cafe. Another favorite is the Ethopian restaurant on Main St. called Habesha. And of course, amazing Dim Sum at Sun Kong. Also love All Seasons Table and and Hugh O'Neills. I good list many more we've tried and enjoyed over the past year. We don't have to travel far to get a great meal.

Not to be a downer here (tongue in cheek), but since this new establishment is near the police station, it more than likely will be robbed soon.
