The film, currently untitled but formerly known as "American B******t", is a historical dramatization of the "Abscam" wiretap case, a scandal-laden FBI investigation that ended in criminal bribery convictions for a U.S. senator, five congressmen and other state and local officials in the early 1980s.

Russell has an all-star cast for the film, including Jennifer Lawrence, Chistian Bale, Bradley Cooper and comedian Louis C.K.
