WTH does there need to be a 'hearing' on this? just so some 70 year old + Nimbys can come and b**tch?

Not everyone is opposed to allowing our residents to have a say in zoning law changes. I don't think there will be 70+ year olds at the meeting tonight. If this project is flawless it'll sail through, but I like the idea of the city having the ability to impose restrictions on businesses. Without restrictions, Malden would be in really bad shape. The traffic in this city is very bad now, so anything that adds to the traffic problems should be looked at very carefully. Generally the City does a great job when they impose restrictions or add conditions to a permit.

Whats the point of the hearing? The city officials got enough kickbacks already to allow the permit for the seven eleven. The hearing is just a hogwash.

Not that I'm against the public hearings - I think they're a great idea - but where were hearings like this when the umpteenth nail salon, hair salon or sub shop opened up?

Can we have a public hearing about getting Oya a liquor license? Prioritize, people!

We need a good bakery in this city, not another convenience store. I hope the city doesn't allow it.

Hello, Believe me I would like a good bakery as well in the city. But from my view this location has been empty for quite awhile so to have it filled is not a bad thing. The businesses in the area would like a place they can grab a cup of coffee, water, soda, paper etc in the area they can walk to. The real sticking point is their original request was to sell beer and wine and be open 24 hrs. My opinion and the Councillor from Ward 2 is there is NO NEED for either and we are strongly against both. (it is acutally in Ward 1 but effects more residents in Ward 2). We would love to hear from residents and have sent notices to our respective Wards to keep them up to date. However it is not up to us! It is a planning board decision so we will be there tonight to express our concerns and propose restrictions and hope others will do the same (whether you are in favor or not! the board needs to hear)

MIKE G said it all. Does Malden really need another 7 Eleven? No. It will become another Foxwoods once they put the lottery in. There isn't a varity store that you walk into in Malden that doesn't have tables set up for people to hang around in all day and gamble. They have become betting palors. They fill the parking lots and when you walk in, everyone is sitting at the tables, some even take their knitting with them, it's a joke. Malden doesn't need it. Enough already.

Another 24 hour 7-11. The junkies will love not having to go to the other side of the city to rob one. Good thinking.

So sad that we are only good for Liquour store, dollar stores, Nails salon and convenience stores. Why can't we attract better business?

There is NO need to sell liquor (there is a liquor store a block away) and there is NO need (in my estimation) for 24 hrs. Extended hours maybe but 24hrs?

Malden does not need another Seven Eleven, It will only become another mini foxwoods like the rest of them. You can't find parking and when you finally do, everyone is sitting at the tables playing the lottery or you have to wait 15 minutes to purchase something becuase the person in front of you is spending their social security check on the lottery. It's like walking into a bingo hall at most of the seven eleven's. Enough is enough.

There is Keno and Lottery at the Dockside next door. The Edge Liquor Store is at Highland and Medford Street. The bank that was there moved out because you needed a reservation to rob it. The store is abutted to the track embankment and can't be seen heading East on Medford Street. And cars turning left onto Medford coming out of the parking lot will make 4-6 PM a bigger nightmare than it is now. There are also two new buildings next to the soon to be sold Rosebud which would make better locations for those who want to make a coffee stop on the way to the parkway. I wouldn't be open 24 hrs at those either.

The LAST thing we need is another convenience store. There are 4 on Highland, 2 at the end of Medford near Main. If people who work in the area want snacks, there's Rosebud which has REAL food, not just meat sticks and chips. We DON'T need another liquor store, there are 8 places to buy booze in a 1 mile radius. This will become a staging ground for the rice-rocket boy racers at 3 am who race down Medford St, and it will also become stick-up central. What next, a check cashing and payday loan store?

Can anyone say, "Dispensary"

I think its a great idea. More foot traffic and another business at an intersection that most would just pass through. Chances are they wont even get a liquor license because they will share the same building as a bar.

So? Did anyone go?
