Five Things You Need to Know Today, Jan. 11
It's business as usual today, but a storm threatens to knock the rest of your week for a loop.
Today is Tuesday, Jan. 11. Here are five things you need to know:
A gathering storm: It’ll be mostly sunny with high’s around 30 degrees today, but that’s not what you want to know. The first flakes will start to fall late Tuesday night or very early Wednesday morning. The current forecasts call for 10 to 14 inches of snow, so be prepared for a bear of a commute tomorrow morning.
Stay up to date on the latest storm news: We’ve reset the Malden Storm Center for the upcoming storm. Check back often for the latest on Malden’s response to the storm, what’s closed, where the plows are, when the trash is getting picked up, and all the other daily details that get derailed during a snowstorm.
Pressure check: If you’re young and strong, you’re about to shovel a lot of snow. If you’re older and getting around is tough, you’re about to spend some extended time in the house. Either way, it makes sense to check your blood pressure checked at the senior center starting at 9 a.m. today. If you do have high blood pressure, you may also want to make sure you have your prescriptions filled before the storm starts.
Clash of the hockey titans: It’s still early in the season, but archrivals and perennial hockey powerhouses Malden Catholic (6-1) and Catholic Memorial (5-3) are both the class of their conference this year. The two face off at Mystic Valley Forum II at 6 p.m..
Point of order: It’s a committee night at the City Council chamber, and a number of topics are up for discussion, including the city’s financial team structure and a proposed residential parking sticker program.
