The 50 year old victim, not identified, was from Malden. Another male victim, 45 and also from Malden, is expected to recover.
Malden Police have confirmed a fatality in Wednesday night's pedestrian accident on Broadway near 99 Gas.
A 50-year-old Malden woman was killed when a car struck her and a male companion as they crossed the street. The 45-year-old male, also hit, is expected to be released from the hospital later today.
The female victim's identity has not been released.
Malden Police Lt. Det. Marc Gatcomb said there was no evidence that the female driver was engaging in any texting at the scene and that the investigation continued.

This is such a sad story, but I can't say that I'm surprised unfortunately. I've lived on Broadway for 5 years and have seen more accidents in that time than I can count on two hands. I've raised these to concerns to city officials, but unfortunately, nothing was ever done. There are 3 bus stops between that gas station and Eastern Ave., so people - including teens - are constantly crossing that dangerous street. Why aren't there any crosswalks at each of those bus stops, especially considering that 2 of them are in front of the cemetary where there is only a curb to stand on. With the number of accidents that have occurred in the last few years, one would imagine that the City has conducted enough safety/operations analyses to warrant the installation of pedestrian signals, similar to the one at the intersection of Appleton and Main Street in Everett. Unfortunately, as usual, it takes something tragic to happen before any preventative measures are taken. Hopefully, this woman has not died in vain and something will be done to prevent another tragedy.

Awful I pray for them and their family. Misa, stand your ground and don't give up the fight. It is a horrible road, high speeds and yes no cross walks. Godspeed

Not to be a weener, but I've never been hit by a car crossing a street. I do this weird thing called 'paying attention'. All to often, I watch folks cross the street and NEVER look who's coming. And the kid that got killed in Newton last week....did I understand correctly that the kid was walking on the side of Rte. 128?
