Event Spotlight: Malden Redevelopment Authority And National Grid's 'Field Of Dreams' Meeting

Proponents for the field are hoping to come away with a sublease of the property.

Event info and text provided by the MRA:

The Malden Redevelopment Authority (MRA) Board of Directors will meet Wednesday night, Feb. 8 to decide whether to grant preliminary developer’s designation to the Baseball Field of Dreams for the redevelopment of the National Grid-owned property at 100 Commercial St.

The public meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. in the MRA offices, located in Room 621, Malden Government Center, 200 Pleasant St. This is not a public hearing.

A preliminary developer’s designation will allow the proposed redeveloper to begin negotiations with National Grid on a sublease of the parcel. It will also allow the proposed redeveloper to begin--on a simultaneous track--further discussions with owners of the three abutting properties which would need to be acquired in the event a minor league baseball stadium is the preferred development option for the site.

Should the negotiations between National Grid and the Baseball Field of Dreams prove successful, the public would have an opportunity in the months ahead to comment at public hearings that will have to be held in order to either change the zoning or develop an urban renewal plan.
