DÉJÀ VU: Mini-Mart Robbed Twice In One Week
Malden Mini-Market, robbed by a masked gunman only last Saturday, was again robbed by another masked man Tuesday night. Police continue to look for the suspect in both cases.
It's been a rough week for the Malden Mini Market.
The downtown convenience store at 539 Main St. was held up by two men around 3 p.m. Saturday, and – according to police transmissions – was robbed again just before 8 p.m. Tuesday night by a potentially armed, white-masked man.
No spokespeople from the Malden Police Department were immediately available to verify the reports Tuesday night, but the Malden Crime Watch Facebook Page reported hearing police describe the male suspect as 6' tall, wearing a white mask – or potentially a t-shirt pulled over their face – with a dark hoodie.
A man with a similar description – white male with a white mask, black hoodie and pants – reportedly demanded money from a tenant at King's Petroleum on Eastern Ave. shortly after the robbery at the Mini-Market.
Anyone with information about the case should call Malden Police at 781-397-7171.

Where are the officers on foot patrol that the mayor promised us? Why doesn't MPD be more proactive instead of reacting to criminal incidents after the fact?

This is crazy, there are a lot of residential homes around there. Not feeling safe at all.

The problem is, is that four additional police officers in a city of almost 70,000 will make virtually no difference. The police need a noticeable increase, just as the fire department just got by hiring 10. This city will only go as far as the police can take it. Public safety should be #1 priority money wise and only then can we hope for everything else to fall into place.

One of the things I've noticed in Patch articles about crimes occurring in Malden is that the MPD is never available for comment. Why is that? Even the military has recognized that breaking the story to the media or at least not avoiding them when they call is the best way to engender trust and public support. The majority of information the public receives now is from Malden Crimewatch and scanner traffic. What the hell is going on at that department?
