Coats for Kids Drive Starts at Salemwood School

Residents are invited to drop off their used coats at boxes in the school's lobby.

Salemwood School is kicking off it's fifth annual "Coats for Kids" drive this week, where families are encouraged to donate "slightly used" coats in both the elementary and middle school lobbies.

The school has already collected hundreds of coats - which are cleaned by Anton's Cleaners - in previous drives, which were distributed to area shelters and agencies.

The continued success of the program stems from it's focus on chidren, teacher  Kathleen Sullivan said. Kids grow out of their clothes quickly, meaning families often have an old jacket or coat taking up space in the back of the closet.

Still, the group accepts both adult, youth and infant jackets.

If you'd like to donate a coat, bring it to one of the drop boxes at Salemwood School, 529 Salem St., Malden, MA.

Please, only donate coats that are in good, wearable condition. Do not donate coats with broken zippers, stains or missing buttons.

This is a wonderful charity. Nothing breaks my heart more than kids not being cared for.
