Brown Questions Markey's Malden Residency

Boston.com is reporting an early salvo has been fired in what could be the Senate special election showdown.

Update 5:02pm: Markey spokeswoman Giselle Barry reached out to Malden Patch about Brown's remarks, calling them "absurd."

"Scott Brown has not yet announced that he is running for Senate, but he is already launching false, personal attacks from the sidelines. Ed Markey lives in Malden, and has lived there his entire life. He and his wife own their home in Malden. He is proud to come from and represent the values of the people of Malden. This campaign should be about what matters most to the people of Massachusetts: jobs, education, health care and the environment."

Malden Mayor Gary Christenson also issued a statement.

"Ed Markey is very much a presence in Malden as evidenced by his leadership in securing funds for our downtown renovation and helping to bring a $51 Million baseball park to our City. When he’s not racking up legislative accomplishments, Ed can be found at the YMCA shooting hoops, at our fabulous restaurants on Saturday nights, or at community events throughout the year.

"He has long been a true champion for the City of Malden and as Mayor, I am proud that a national leader of Ed Markey's stature calls Malden home."

Original Article: In a radio interview Wednesday morning, U.S. Sen. Scott Brown (R-MA) jabbed at Democratic Congressman Edward Markey about his residency in Malden, according to a Boston.com report.

Brown questioned if Markey still lives in Massachusetts anymore and also told WTKK-FM he often sees members of the Bay State congressional delegation on planes trips home but said "I have never seen Ed on the airplane - ever," according to the report.

This salvo from Brown could be a preview of a possible showdown with Markey over the Senate seat expected to be vacated by John Kerry if he is confirmed as the next U.S. Secretary of State.

Boston.com reports Brown has "hinted" he could run for the seat while Markey said he would run if Kerry's confirmation is successful.

Here we go with the lame accusations...is this the best you got Scott? Didn't you see how far that kind of dirty mud slinging got you? Man up and if you're going to run, clean up your act and run on issues, real issues.

I just didn't realize asking a question of an elected official would be so offensive to some people. I guess you would rather close your eyes (or hold your nose) and blindly check the D.

Hope you enjoy your New Years tax increase:)

Im sure the wounds arent all that bad for you, but for me and the rest of the future generation that needs to pay for for the decisions by your generation and the irresponsibility of the government spending and the taxes that will continue to shrink our economy and workforce are wounds that aren't easy to heal. I don't see what you find so funny in that?

It's a classic liberal line

I love big government and I love high taxes as long as Someone else is paying the taxes.

If would be funny if it wasn't so pathetic.

But yes Romney didn't win based on the fact that too many people doubted he would fix the economy. Instead we elected a man whom proved he couldn't fix it.

WRONG!!! Romney didn't win because he hates women. Ask Diana, she's an expert on the subject.

Well, that's one of the reasons. I was wrong about Brown though, he loves women. So much so that he's adopted the Mean Girls method of campaigning. Unfortunately, metaphorically speaking, he's wearing sweatpants and it's not Friday. He can't sit here.

I usually vote democrat, but you gotta kinda wonder how well he could represent the state if he never sets foot in it

I saw Markey the past 2 weeks several times. Never really liked his politacal stance at all. But, the way these Republicans are acting/Tea Party clearly shows who the MEAN people are. Now lets discuss Scott Brown. My wife went to school with him in Wakefield. He was a complete bully, picking on a lot of "nerdy" types. His mother is the absolute prototype town slut you read about. Married at least nine times and you know that BS book Brown wrote about being abused. He was the abuser. I am suprised that his background in school has not been brought up. Why doesn't the Patch do some investigative work here and interview some of his classmates in Wakefield. He did move way down to the south shore a long way from his past reputation.

Whoever says they've seen Ed Markey around is full of it and likely being paid off by the Malden establishment. Wake up, people! We need legislators in Washington who represent the people's best interests--not their own--and get us out of this fiscal morass!! Scott Brown is our only hope.

actually, if you heard the interview, it was kind of said in more of a joking manner and then they traded jokes about both being unemployed That gets lost when just reading about it. Kinda like on emails, maybe they should have put a smiley face on the quote when they reported it.

I personally don't know either of them, town slut...oooo really. Lots of people where jerks in High School though. Then we graduate, go to college, grow up. A few don't, but most of us do.. I am sure he is not the same person now than when he was in High School

A25: My bad..I thought we were discussing Markey and Brown. Gee, I didn't realize only Dems had shady backgrounds. For the record, I am Unenrolled and have voted for both parties at various times.

Never really been a fan of Markey until this past spring when I found out from the IRS I am the victim of tax return fraud. I contacted Kerry, Brown and Markey's offices to request some help. Kerry and Markey immediately responded and Markey was so quick at helping me I told Kerry's office I was all set. Brown's office contacted me two weeks after the situation was resolved telling me I had to call someone else in their office to start the process! Markey has a well oiled machine in place to help his constituents. It doesn't matter where Markey is as long as when his constituents pick up the phone they get the kind of response I got. He has earned my vote. It's got nothing to do with him being a D or R.

since I am not a millionaire and nowhere near the 250K to 450K income mark, I think my income tax will stay the same, ....but thanks to a republican house, the 2% savings in SS tax has been discontinued... dam I could buy some shiny chrome thingys for my motorcycle with that money ...rat farts

As much as I enjoy seeing liberals argue for the Bush tax cuts and against the Bill Clinton tax rates your facts are incorrect. The republican controlled house voted on a unamended bill sent over by the democrat controlled senate and written by the VP. But who really needs to know the details.

Comment_arrow

jirkyrick

10:55 am on Friday, January 4, 2013

me thinks you are wrong, The President wanted was originally a bill to keep to keep the tax rates for 250K and below, negotiations with republicans changed the threshhold to the 400K limiit as well as not renewing the SS tax holiday, which President Obama wanted to renew, so the republicans are responsible for the SS tax holiday expiring... mmmm dounts (not dunkin's though)

Andrew25

8:46 am on Friday, January 4, 2013

Let me break it down for you in trash bag language. Let's say your family makes 40k a year. Obama and his merry men just raised your taxes by 2%. That's 400 trash bags a year, none of which we are ever going see any benefit from. This is assuming you only make 40k a year and if you only had your taxes raised the minimum 2%. If you have any investmnets.... that's gonna cost you a s#$t load more trash bags!!!!

Obama did not raise your taxes by 2%, He was the one that lowered the SS tax by 2% a few years ago. It was the republican led congress that did not want to continue this tax cut. But I do like the trash bag analogy oh look a beer can,,,, thats 5 cents
