Police said they are confident a child abduction scare Wednesday afternoon was a "misunderstanding" after interviewing the suspect and determining "there was no intent to harm, coerce or entice the child." 

An unidentified witness filed a police report Thursday morning alleging they saw an alleged abduction of a child leaving Mystic Valley's Bus 1 at the intersection of Clifton and Summer Streets. 

"Detectives located the man in question and he was identified, interviewed, and released after corroborating his story with that of information obtained during the Police Department’s investigation," a statement from the Mayor's office read. 

Police also verified the whereabouts of a local sex offender, who was not at the scene.
