80 Names Added to Malden WWII Memorial

The plaque with mistakenly excluded names will be added to a monument in Bell Rock Park during a Flag Day ceremony Thursday.

A panel inscribed with the names of 80 Malden residents inadvertently excluded from Bell Rock Park's World War II memorial will be installed during a Flag Day ceremony at the Park Thursday evening.

The addtion was a last minute change to the holiday festivities, with organizers unsure if the piece would be available in time for the procession.

Police Chief James J. Holland is also scheduled to receive a Patriot Award from Brigadier General Smith, which honors civilians who aid and assist National Guard members.

The memorial will now include over 8,300 names of Malden World War II veterans.

The ceremony is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Thursday

about a year and a half ago,I discovered that my uncles name was missing from the WWII memorial at Bell Rock park. After some searching, and with the assistance of the library,I was able to satisfactorily prove that he entered the service from Malden and deserved to be on the wall. And thanks to you,Chis, and the 'Patch' for the notice about the ceremony which I attended this evening.
As an aside,I was able to tell my uncle, two weeks before his death at the VA, that along with his brother, his name would be honored
