5 Things You Need to Know Today, March 15

Saint Patrick's Day? More like Saint Patrick's week.

Today is Tuesday, March 15. Here are five things you need to know:

Sunshine today: OK, admit it: You swore out loud when you saw the brief snow flurry yesterday. Let’s all hope that was the last gasp of winter. Expect clear weather with temperatures in the mid-40’s today.

Super search: The School Committee voted last night to place ads soliciting applications and resumes to replace retiring superintendent Sidney Smith. The last remaining point of contention in the process involves the search committee. The proposed nine-member board has only one parent and no teachers or school administrators, which did not sit well with committee members Peg Crowe and Adam Weldai. Expect a revised search committee proposal by next Monday’s School Committee meeting.

Oh Danny boy, the cuff, the cuff is calling: It never hurts to check your blood pressure. Get a free screening at the Senior Center this morning.

From glen to glen, and down the mountain side: The Senior Center hosts Irish balladeer Paul Carroll today at 3:30 p.m. Go for the music and stay for the light dinner served after the performance.

I don’t know any more "Danny Boy" lyrics, but there’s one more St. Patrick’s Day item: This week’s Patch Picks question is: Where's the best place to Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in Malden? Tell us in the comments section and we’ll compile your answers for Thursday’s feature. As a bonus, we’ll move up the publishing time to the morning, so you can take advantage of your neighbors’ wisdom.
