Who Do You Consider a Local Celebrity?
The Salvation Army is looking to you for ideas.
Lt. James Labbe, Officer and Pastor at the Mystic Valley (Malden) Corps Salvation Army, wants to know:
Who do YOU consider a Malden celebrity?
The Salvation Army will hold a "celebrity" bell ringing day at the Stop & Shop on Charles Street and organizers need help brainstorming some of Malden’s most famous faces.
Labbe said suggestions can include politicians, business owners, artists, or any other well-known names from around town.
Check back with Patch for the finalized list and schedule.

Lol jirky. My personal favorite was always organizing my trash the night before, just to see asian guy tear my trash apart just for the bottles and cans, and then leave my trash all over the ground. Then I got smart and started pouring bleach all over the trash. Problem solved! :)

JOE LEVINE! HANDS DOWN!
HE WAS THE VERY FIRST PERSON I MET WHEN I MOVED TO MALDEN 8 YEARS AGO!
I WAS ALONE & SCARED IN A NEW TOWN WITH A 7 y.o. Dropped my son at school & didn't know where to go ~
I WALKED THE TRACK ~ BOTH THE TEARS & THE RAIN FALLING.
HE GOT ME A BOTTLED H20 & SAT WITH ME & REASSURED ME THINGS WOULD BE OK. THEY ARE!!!
I HAVEN'T MET 1 PERSON WHO DOESN'T KNOW HIM OR EXPERIENCED AN ACT OF KINDNESS ON HIS PART!

I met Joe at MHS way back. He was a great guy then and continues to be a great guy today. Plus his sister married my cousin. Great girl.

Group some people together such as the prinicpals of all the K-8 schools in Malden plus Cheverus and charter school. Same with some politicians like city councillors, school committee. Police chief and fire chief, head of DPW, etc. - the people who keep the city running are unsung heroes. Schedule 15-minute celebrity ringers segments and make sure you have signage or name tags so shoppers know who people are. I've lived here 22 years and know some but not all of the names many people suggested. Would suggest that Salvation Army just highlight these folks a little so they can be approriately identified and appreciated for ringing and what they do for the city.

I also vote for Joe Levine! One of the nicest guys and who I believe makes a big impact on the city in a quiet and unassuming way. He doesn't need nor does he want accolades yet his kindness is far reaching to both students and parents!!! The other person I would nominate is John Furlong - Softball coach extraordinaire! (and high hopes for a great basketball season! at the high school) John is another one that makes a great impact on athletics by his positive attitude, strict discipline and focus!

Totally OT question for you, Paul: Why would you assume that women, specifically, do this? I never have nor do 99% of the women I know.

Phe, I know plenty of women, and MOST of THEM have pictures of their animals on their Facebook, social media, etc....I just don't happen to know YOUR '99%' female friends, so I can't speculate on them. WOMEN is the plural description! And I didn't say 'all women'. I just love having to mince words with people who can't read....Jesus!

Lol! Sorry Paul. I guess I clearly missed the part where you said, "Most of the women I know" and misread it as simply, "Most women."

@ Phe its a known fact that women are smarter than men. Women learn faster and if we had all women running this country I truly believe there would be no wars. Women are more understanding and compassionate. We men are just big n dum. All we know is having power.

jirkyrick, did you see that shameless video back 5 months ago where Elizabeth Warren came to Malden to stump for her election bid, and while she was on camera, Mayor Christenson was holding her book in the background, upside down, then turned it right-side up? Talk about hilarious. If you look around the patch site, you should be able to find it.
